Owen's got a better scoring record than Inzaghi and yet he makes it in there.
I can't honeslty beleive you think Owen is $h!t - his scoring record at club, European and international level is fantastic!

Owen is $h!t
From 18-24 Owen was one of the best strikers in Europe.
Since injury robbed him of his pace he has not been a shadow of his former self.

Except that he managed 13 goals in 29 appearances for Madrid (mostly as a sub) and then 7 in 12 for Newcastle - both of which are damn good scoring rates.
The last season he only made 2 appearances so hardly worth commenting on

Tweedle - when was the last time he managed a season without a serious injury (i.e. played 40+ games for his club)?
In addition you are assuming that the latest, most serious injury, will not have affected his overall game, when the previous injuries have.
I am willing to bet 5 internet pounds with you that he won't break 15 goals in all comps next season.

You've now twisted the arguement from 'he's $h!t' to 'he's injury prone'.
The last injury may well have affected him but its not as though he had blistering pace before that

Fox in the box strikers tend to be fairly sh*t at everything else bar scoring, and hence Owen deserves a mention cos he is a lethal poacher. His goalscoring record for Madrid was immense, proven abroad and despite being used as a sub.
Yes, in terms of natural talent he's not great, but neither are the likes of inzaghi, Trez etc

$h!t may be too strong - but there's no way hes in the top 5 poachers in Europe.
I stand by my 15 goals comment. Surely the best 5 poachers in Europe should be getting more than 15 goals a season... if they're not adding anything else to the team than goals?

Roger
If he was fit, he would get 15 goals - easily.
When he was at Liverpool he was getting over 15 goals - more than anyone hs since

Funny that most of his goals come from poaching in the 6 yard box then

some players mentioned like toni are not this fox-in-the-box style striker, I can only think of 3 that I rate:
1. RVN
2. Owen
3. Inzhagi
4.
5.
never really rated trez and he hasn't exactly set serie b on fire.
owen's lost his pace but still seems to be in the right place at the right time and is clinical, that's surely is the definition of what we are talking about

A lot of names mentioned (Toni, crespo) do a lot more otside the box than given credit for - these are the 5 players, in Europe, that are to me notorious for contributing nothing else but goals.

Wait, forget RvN, Inzhagi, da-de-da-de-da, Wenger, what with his astute eye for young blood, has already identified the guy you’re looking for.
Wenger: "Francis is that 'fox in the box' we have been talking about and although he is a goalscorer I want to develop him as a team player so he is not obsessed by just scoring goals."

Perhaps one of the German posters can clarify this. Is Marek Mintal a fox in the box? I know he has a pretty decent goal scoring record in Germany, but I’m unsure if he is a poacher or an Arveladze-type forward…
Christian Bucchi? Or is ox in the box a more apt description of Bucchi?
Negri – ~ 30 goals in half a season in Scotland? Does he still play in Italy?
