The most boring transfer saga of the summer seems to be coming to a close with David Rozehnals pimp... sorry, agent... declaring that he has agreed to join Newcastle.

I've no idea how good he is tbh, i just now that he's PSG's player of the year and some bloke on nufc-online says he was $h!t in Belgium.

He seemed solid from what I remembered, not spectacular, just solid.
Compared to Newcastle's defense for the last 4 years - a solid defender would be akin to winning the lottery.

And the Czechs international squad always had quality defenders - Rozenahl is a starter. That should tell you something.

Last time a PSG player of the year came to EPL was Gabby Hienze and that turned out well good.

I'm amazed to keep hearing that he's a "no nonsense" player.

He can get bullied a bit for a man of his size but is fairly quick.

I'd say he's a decent defender rather than a great defender.

However he is a great footballer - I make him the most talented CB in the world actually.

Great passing range and he can dribble a bit too and is reasonably 2 footed.

I'm a big fan.

He should have joined Tottenham with a name like that mind.

His agent is a twat, he's been in the media every day buttering up moves to Newcastle, Dortmund, and recently Sevilla - seemingly trying to start a bidding war. Looks like it's over now though.


In other news Fat Sam wants to give Luque a chance . I can see him being used in a 4-3-3 like when he was at Depor. It'll be good to see if he really isn't good enough(i doubt that's the case), Roeder and Souness gave him no time.

Fantastic news! I'm so pissed off at Souness and Roeder for ruining Luque. If he can come good under Allardyce I'll be very happy, not just as someone who has a soft spot for Newcastle, but it'll be nice to see the poor guy finally show what he can do.

Very good news - Having got a lot out of Stelios, Diouf and Anelka of late, I can see Allardyce getting results with Luque (always a talented footballer).

Really looking forward to seeing what obscure formation he uses. I can't see a simple 4-4-2 formation occuring to say the least.

SAM ALLARDYCE clinched his first defensive signing for Newcastle United when David Rozehnal arrived at St James’ Park from Paris St Germain.

And the United boss is expected to go back to France for another defender in Marseille’s versatile Habib Beye, who is at home both at right-back and centre-half.

Rozehnal was at St James’ Park yesterday afternoon to talk terms and have a medical after his £2.7m transfer from PSG, which will see the 26-year-old Czech international sign a four-year deal.

And he certainly had a rocking welcome to Tyneside, as along with the likes of Allardyce, Sir Bobby Robson, Freddy Shepherd, Lee Clark and Terry McDermott, Rozehnal enjoyed the Rod Stewart concert at St James’ Park.

He stopped rocking briefly to say: “Coming to a great club like Newcastle United is reward for all the hard work I have done throughout my career.”

I have a feeling Allardyce is consciously trying to offload one of Owen and Martins. Last week he came out saying "he's afraid someone will take advantage of Owen's clause", and this week he says the same but with Martins' name swapped in. Sounds like he's trying to draw attention to the clauses, and I'm not sure why.

A strike force of Owen, Martins, Viduka, and Ameobi with the likes of Dyer able to play an attacking role, is quite good...and if this new rumour of Gudjohnsen is true, then that means one spot less.

Sky Sports News understands Newcastle United have agreed a deal, in principle, to sign Edmilson.

The versatile Barcelona man is currently recovering from knee surgery, but it has not deterred the Magpies from launching a bid.

Edmilson is likely to be out of action for four to six months, having undergone the operation last week.

A Newcastle delegation, headed by manager Sam Allardyce, travelled to Spain on Thursday to hold talks with Barcelona and Edmilson.

It now appears that Allardyce has come to an agreement with Edmilson, who can play at centre-half or in a midfield holding role.

Barcelona are reportedly willing to accept a nominal fee for the 30-year-old, with the Brazilian having 12 months remaining on his contract.

During the trip to Catalunya, Allardyce is also understood to be enquiring about the availability of former Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Edmilson and Barton for midfield I imagine. I don't rate him as much of a centre-half.

Newcastle fans must be over the moon. After Souness and Roeder they finally have a manager who is going out looking at real, European quality players. Business so far has been very good. Edmilson - Bartion could be a great partnership IMO....and yeh, he surely should play in the defensive midfield role rather than as a center half.

I don't know...Newcastle have signed an injured player. When he gets fit, he's a World Cup and Champions League winner with superb skill on the ball. If Big Sam gets the best out of him, a fantastic signing. Initially I'd be a bit skeptical as a Newcastle fan.

Yes he's been $h!t for us this season, but was good last year. Let's not forget he was one of the main players for us in the CL win. What I'm saying is he does have quality, but there's no more time for him at Barça to rediscover that quality.

Edmilson could be like Hierro or Campo under Big Sam.

I'll judge him at the end of next season, it's not like it's a financial gamble, it's a minimal fee and Barca are paying his medical bills.


Reports up here are saying we've put in a bid for Beye aswell and that we'll probably get an answer on monday. That would be a good signing.

Pity he's out until November. Who will be Barton's partner in the meantime?
