I see, so it's just bitterness by the scousers? It seems to be very persistent though. I mean Barry is a good / ok player, but not that good that you can't get over it a year after...

I think Glenn really hates MON.
Glenn is only joking when it comes to Germans. He can even speak the language.

But most likely because a certain team close to your heart have completely inflated the market and he's not willing to pay a lot of what is being asked currently..maybe waiting it out to see if prices drop as deadline nears?
Yeah fucking Real madrid
Martin O’Neill claimed yesterday that Manchester City’s summer spending spree has made them serious contenders for the title.
“City might not be favourites to win the league but they should be,”
the Aston Villa manager said. “If Kolo Touré goes to the club and they
still haven’t stopped spending, they have as good a chance as anyone.”
Sir Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United manager, dismissed his
neighbours across the city last week as “a small club with a small
mentality”. O’Neill, however, believes that without the distractions of
the Champions League, City will be able to make a viable challenge in
the Barclays Premier League.
“All they have got is 38 League games and the League Cup and FA
Cup, which does not start until January,” O’Neill said. “I would say
now that the top four has become a genuine top five. It has surprised
me. Manchester City have gone and got some players that three months
ago I didn’t think was possible.”
O’Neill had pretensions to crash the top four with Villa but feels
that City’s spending power has lessened his side’s chances of
fulfilling that ambition. “The frustration has come from the type of
player they have been able to attract,” he said. “You are looking at
trying to get value for money, but Manchester City are putting it
beyond an awful lot of teams.
“You think, well, you got quite close last year and suddenly
another club has just stepped over you immediately before you can go
on. It kind of punctures you. I’m sure if you asked David Moyes \ he
would think the same thing.
“The City side is going to be so, so strong that they can withstand
anything during the course of the year and they’re not even playing
European football. This situation reminds me of Chelsea about five
years ago. There’s part of me that’s actually quite excited to see how
they will do. It’s as if the Premiership has been reinvented five years
on.”

Utterly depressing quotes. But certainly backs me up from what I said earlier!

Re: Aston Villa Thread
Inflating wages is just as bad, or worse, than transfer fees - and that's where City are really blowing things up.
Anyway, setting a price which wasn't paid doesn't do much to other prices, compared to going out and spending 20m+ all over the place.

I wouldnt say that as i say i always rated MON very highly....cant say i agree though, a challenge for the top 4 would be great enough.

3-1 up against Atalante in the Peace Cup. Need to win by two to make the SF.
Albrighton, Carew, Young the scorers.
Unfortunately Petrov has injured his arm/shoulder which may well be ruling him out for a while.

Beat Porto 2-1. Had about 5 players booked and Heskey sent off. Good ol' Peace Cup
Juve or Real Madrid in the final

Re: Aston Villa Thread
Not sure about that. Line-up tonight was:
Guzan
Lichaj-Davies-Cuellar-Shorey
Albrighton-Sidwell-ReoCoker-Young
Carew-Heskey
Heskey got sent off and Davies went off injured, so both could missing also, which will mean two more kids starting.
Played well tonight, by all accounts, but can't see that team standing up to Ronaldo and co.

Re: Aston Villa Thread
Do other clubs have local newspapers as embarrassing as this:
Aston Villa make a play for Real Madrid midfielder Wesley Scheider
Aug 1 2009
by Bill Howell, Birmingham Mail
VILLA are set for talks with Real Madrid over a sensational move for star midfielder Wesley Scheider.
The 25-year-old Holland international and former Ajax ace is available after Madrid’s summer spree.
Reports
in Spain suggested a fee of 16 million euros had been agreed with
Liverpool for the attacking midfielder, but Villa have now come in to
make their play.
It is believed his wages could still
represent a huge hurdle for Villa to overcome but the fact Villa have
gone for such a replacement for Gareth Barry is a signal at last of
their intent to compete this season.
