Roy Keane has banned his players from swapping shirts in the Premiership, and taken a swipe at stars who are obsessed with collecting strips.
The Sunderland boss has ordered his players not to join the star-struck ranks of the shirt-hoarders who plagued him during his playing days at Manchester United.
Keane's men host Liverpool today in a game where they need to recover their momentum after a disappointing 3-0 loss at Wigan.
Keane wants his men to believe they will upset one of the title favourites today - and that means not falling into the trap of senior players who wanted his United shirt as a souvenir so badly they would beg him for it in the heat of the battle.
He said: "You get it all the time, players who say 'I've got 50 jerseys in my garage'. I think 'Yeah, brilliant, but how many medals have you got?'
"I certainly wouldn't expect any of our players to be doing anything like that. I don't think there's that feeling amongst our group.
"We've earned the right to be in the Premier League and we don't need to be star-struck by anybody.
"I don't remember ever asking to swap a shirt at club level. I understand if a young player does it at the end of a game, but it's ridiculous when you get a senior player asking you during a game.
"I remember games where that's happened to me and I've been thinking 'Are you even focused on the game at all?' There have been people through my career who have been more focused on getting someone's jersey.
"Perhaps that's what happened the last time this club went up. It's part of the manager's job to make sure that doesn't happen.
"Of course, you respect the opposition, and there's always that added boost when you're playing a team like Liverpool. But it's certainly not about being in awe of anybody."
The pain of last week's defeat is still raw and Keane added: "You just want to get back and that's why I think Liverpool is a great game for us. But I like to see people hurting like last weekend because it shows they care."
