    Mac's like turnip Taylor

    By STEVEN HOWARD
    September 07, 2007

TONY ADAMS last night blasted England chief Steve McClaren, saying: “He reminds me of Graham Taylor.”

The Sun famously branded ex-boss Taylor a TURNIP after his side flopped at Euro 92.

And former defender Adams, part of Taylor’s squad that failed to reach USA 94, said: “I saw the pressure getting to Graham.

“It manifested itself in indecision, agitation and a lack of true confidence.

“They were turbulent times, with some indifferent performances and sudden switches in tactics.

"There seem to be quite a few similarities between Graham and Steve.”

I read his article and some of it did make sense.

However blaming McLaren for ruining Robinson was ridiculous.

    Forget the comparisons.

Its quite simple, McClaren simply isn't good enough to make a group of relatively decent players into a solid / formidable team.

I think we need a successful manager from the Premiership to take the helm.

In hindsight, Allardyce would probably, almost definately have done a better job.

It's pretty obvious we need a new manager, but who could it be? Allardyce and O'Neill(the two best candidates) are tied up. Paul Jewell perhaps? Erm

Kimbo O'Neill has not done wnything special at Villa it always amazes me how he keeps getting mentioned, and IF Sam were the man, he'd jack his job in quicker than you'd drop your pants for one up the jacksy from N'Zogbia

He signed a £12m contract with us, and when he was asked about the England job at his press conference he said there was no clause saying he could leave for it. IF he did leave, which i don't think he would, then we would get a shitload of compo, and now that we don't have idiots running the club we would get a suitable replacement. We can't lose Fwank. Very Happy <Ale>

mate for me you can keep him anyway imho i don't think there is an english man or brit even who is remotely capable of doing the job. sevn was seen as a disappointment and the fa didn't have the bottle to take another chance unless it was basically a WC winner, eg Scolari

Newcastle player of the season, or EPL player of the season by the way? Remember, this is the same man who reckons the holding midfielder was only invented 3 years ago

EPL. He's scored 2 goals and had 2 MOTM games, plus he's set up quite a few sitters for Owen and Viduka to miss. The kid is amazing.

And to be fair to Al i don't think he's ever played in a team with a holding midfielder, he certainly never did with us.

Ah Lennon, the poor mans Dyer, he'll get to 28 and we'll still be talking about him as if he's a prospect, still waiting for that season where he blows our minds. It'll never happen though. ok

    @Kimbo,

Clearly thats a V for Victory. And Huddlestone's about to pick his nose. Whats wrong with that? scratch

That Champions league season Dyer was brilliant. No denying. I have no doubt whatsoever that Lennon can go on and become better though. Truest of True Stories, and only one that can be borne out over time <Ale>
