ADO Den Haag heeft de politie ingeschakeld om geruchten te onderzoeken dat spelers uit de selectie betrokken zouden zijn bij het gokken op voetbalwedstrijden.
'Ondanks dat wij van mening zijn dat dergelijke praktijken bij ADO Den Haag niet aan de orde zijn, voelen wij ons verplicht de signalen serieus te nemen', verklaart interim-directeur John Arzbach op de website van de club. 'Zodoende hebben wij na de training van zaterdagochtend zowel de spelersgroep als Politie Haaglanden over het gerucht ingelicht. Meer kunnen wij op dit moment niet doen. Mocht echter blijken dat er daadwerkelijk geld wordt ingezet op eigen wedstrijden, dan heeft dat ontslag op staande voet tot gevolg.'
Arzbach benadrukt dat dit onderzoek geen enkele relatie heeft met het uit de selectie verwijderen van Rick Hoogendorp, Pascal Bosschaart, Yuri Cornelisse en Daniël Rijaard. Volgens de interim-directeur heeft die beslissing van coach Wiljan Vloet niets te maken met eventuele gokpraktijken. 'Het betreft hier ervaren spelers die naar oordeel van de technische staf in het huidige seizoen nog niet het niveau hebben gehaald dat van hen wordt verwacht.'
