Grosso moved to Lyon..when was this?

And why would he leave Inter? Italien players hardly ever leave there own country. Especially a top 4 team player.

    How much he go for?

Great player. And on Wednesday we'll see 2 of the best full backs playing in him and Zambo.

Ok, I like Grosso, but to classify him as one of the best fullbacks playing is being very generous.

Grosso is a very good player, but he is not a great player.

Zambrotta, yes, is simply the best.

Ashley Cole?? ASHLEY COLE?? Have you watched him since he moved to the chavs???

Others all indisputable, fair enough, but how he is still living off this unearned reputation I have no idea...

    I agree with Allez.

At Arsenal Cashley was one of the best (mostly because he didnt have to cross). At Euro 2004 he was one of the best (ask Ronaldo)

At Chelsea he's gone backwards, playing a much more cautious game. And his crossing really is sh*t

    Pip Neville I presume?

I notice Zambro's being mentioned. Hasnt he been pretty average too since his move to Barca? He wasnt all that in the WC either I thought.

Too many of these players living off reputation.

Its time for the likes of Richards, Lahm, Miguel etc. to step up to the plate- there hasnt been a truly World Class fullback since Maldini in his heyday

Glad you agree with me for once Bernd and thanks for not pointing out the shocking faux pas in my original post Wink . Agree with all your points re Ca$hley and find this reputation he has as an "attacking fuill'back" increasingly hard to sustain – defensively he is solid but seems to offer less and less going forward, which aspect is of course so important in the modern game.

I would say that of those you mentioned Philipp is certainly doing his bit – watch him for the national team especially when he recovers from his latest injury. He has been excellent when he's played for die Mannschaft recently and for me the ease with which he adjusted to an almost entirely unaccustomed position against England showed what a special player he is...

Ha ha, I did notice you initially said "from the chavs", however Im not one to meddle in pedantry. I know what u meant.

Yes Lahm is a talent. He's gaining plenty of experience and can hardly be said to be a "newcomer", however he is one of the best in the game and its now up to him to carry his international form onto the domestic scene (he had a poor season last season by his normally high standards), strange as that sounds.

I think our man Richards is one with a very bright future too. Of course I dont like to hype things up like the media do, but when comparing Richards on the right against Cole on the left for England over the last couple of games: in terms of strength, composure, speed, attacking prowess, control, vision, etc, there is no contest. It almost makes one wonder what all the fuss was about Cashley ;-)

zambrotta like ashley cole has not delivered the level he had before his switch.allthough still think he has done better then cole.
Alves was imo the best rightback last season in football. if ramos keeps form from last season he will should be considered and i think its a bit too early to mention richards.
