I really don't understand. Portugal fares 2 miserable draws, and still goes up 2 places to 8 from 10th?

Didn't Argentina lost the Copa America to Brazil? NOT THAT I CARE, this list is beyond stupid, but Brazil ever since played 4 friendlies, and won the four.

I don't think rankings should be taken that seriously , we know which teams are doing well and on form. Still Elo > Fifa.

On Portugal's & England's ranking: apparently you get a point for each dive & a point deducted for each ball hoofed up the pitch.

Like the ELO rating system better too, current ELO ranking:

    1 Brazil 2071
    2 France 2002
    3 Argentina 1997
    4 Germany 1992
    5 Italy 1988

    7 England 1929
    8 Spain 1890
    9 Mexico 1887
    10 Croatia 1879
    11 Romania 1877
    12 Portugal 1855

Yeah, but at his old age his starting to get more myopic. That and his agenda (+ Van Basten's) of course.

Shock horror, the only player who scored was the only non-ajax player (or history) on the pitch.

you forget that when the fifa ranking is renewed, not only new results are added up, but old results are thrown away.

it's easy to criticise something without proposing something better. I guess that's the best we can have as a ranking.

we won't have nothing better because it's impossible to mess the "goodness" of teams that play such different cups and qualifyings.

    Don't be jealous mate. <Ale>
You can always look up to us for inspiration. Biggrin

    Wink

Anyway, we've always been perfoming very highly and get at least to the QF all tournies. We rarely lose competitive matches or friendlies.
And our worst results in 20 years were losing out on the WC02 and those dreadful insightly years under Van Basten's tutilage. Both of which, still influence our rankings, so once we get rid of those blemishes we'll shoot up the rankings again.
Not that I care about rankings really - we have the players to beat anybody in the world.
We hardly are newcomers to the scene.

How come there are no African teams in the top twenty of either list. Ghana for example, is a good team. Ghana did well in teir first apearance in tthe World Cup Finals and did well since. They have played in England twice this year and in France. Why don't European countries play African teams, especially to acclimitaise to African football and style of play. If they did the lists would be more reflective of world football.
