Kahn to retire at end of season

Surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but I just saw a report in a Spanish newspaper that says Oliver Kahn has finally decided to retire at the end of this season. Finally Michael Rensing can get a chance, but a great career is coming to an end.

Up there with the likes of Schmeichel in the ranks of the great goalies of the 90s generation.

Kahn was the very best until 2003. Since then he's only been good, sometimes still very good. Even at 38, he still makes very few mistakes.

he made plenty of mistakes and loads of bayern fans were unhappy with his performances. I agree he was magnificient but around 2003 his form definetly dropped

1997-2003 best in the world. Well i say that because i watched him during that period. 2002 WC was just a text book for a goal keeper.

Michael Rensing is probably still dancing like Snoopy. When he's not sharpening his knives--just in case Olli decides to hang on for another year.

Great keeper. Ballsed up in the 2002 WC final. Ugly and unlikeable.

His spat with the equally unlikeable Lehmann over the Germany number 1 jersey was like being caught in the middle of a playground with two oversized kids. Both have enormous egos, thankfully a trait which is a dying breed in Germany at least.

Still think Schmeichel was better. Kahn lasted longer.

Yes, but Kopke was still dining out on his reputation. By then (1998) Kahn had been the far superiour (in reality undisputed) keeper of the two for at least two years.

Hopefully Van Der Sar retires too after this season.
