obviously...because...one other side has needed a lucky draw in their last qualifying game for a major tournament...and got it..and they went on to win the title...
any ideas who that was?

Re: who will win the EURO 2008
Austria Joking.
I think it will be between the usual ones: Italy, Germany and France with Holland, Portugal, Spain and England just behind. But who knows it might end up being Croatia or Sweden, like it was with Greece for years ago.

Re: who will win the EURO 2008
I think Portugal could do it this time....
But I agree with Alive.... the favs remain the same.... just hope that Domenech's team never win anything, I just don't like that guy. France can win after he is sacked

Switzerland are a favourite as well. They have home advantage and not a bad squad either. Certainly as good as Greece's was at the last EC.

Re: who will win the EURO 2008
I'm hoping Romania have a decent tournament.
Always liked them since 1994: the "Georghi Haghi" World Cup.
Then when they beat Germany 5-1 in a friendly, I liked them even more.
Potential darkhorses

Re: who will win the EURO 2008
I think any team can win it, there isnt one outstanding team in Europe. Even serial underachievers like Holland, Spain and England could win it.
It Just depnds on who gets lucky and who plays well on the day. I honestly wouldnt be surprised if a rubish team does a Greece and wins it. So based on that theory Germany will probably win it.

Portugal or England for me, both have two of the best teams but neither have come close to peaking as of yet. Scolari always manages to do well....and surely England will not fail again

Unfortunately, I really would have liked them to win something because they played some great footie for the last 3 tournaments

Spain. The law of averages say we have to win at some point.

So? This is football, one day one team is better, another day the other is better. They've got plenty of quality.

The Czech republic squad is poor now. Defensively their solid, but they've got journeymen players in Jarolim, Plasil, Sionko, Lafata and Kulic. The only promising young players seem to be Suchy and Zapatochny.

They have been extremely poor in the qualifying campaign, it looks like they've passed their expiration date...

Re: who will win the EURO 2008
The reason why I said Italy, France & Germany start as favourites again, is coz they still have the most complete squads in europe. Here is my one line summaries of the favourites and the main contenders:
The Favourites: the usual suspects
Italy - skillful squad, strong in all areas, and most importantly they have the mental toughness and self belief
France - as complete a squad as Italy, the only issues is that idiot Domenech seems to put personal agenda's above logical reasoning at times
Germany - complete squad, tho not as strong or experienced as the above two, but the germans always make up for that by their never-say-die attitude.
The Contenders: Why they are not favourites
Holland - big weakness in their defence to go all the way, otherwise as good.
England - poor gk, lack of quality strikers apart from Rooney, & most importantly a tactically inept coach.
Spain - their midfield players are very similar to each other, also lack mental toughness IMO.
Portugal - awesome team - probably the dark horses, still lack a quality striker to complete it.
Croatia - talented squad, bit inexperienced... can pull a Greece tho!
There are other teams which can do a Greece as well, specially the Czechs, Romania, Sweden, and the Swiss.
