Ched Evans scored a hat-trick as Wales came from behind to win a thrilling Uefa Under-21 qualifier with joint Group 10 leaders France in Cardiff.
Evans put Wales ahead just before the break with a glorious show of skill, but France led after 76 minutes through Yoann Gourcuff and Dimitri Payet.

But Wales soon hit back with two goals in three minutes from an Evans penalty and a Mark Bradley tap in.

Evans then completed his hat-trick in injury time with another penalty.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wales U21: Williams, Blake, Mike Williams, Ribeiro, Jacobson (capt), Ramsey, Allen, MacDonald, Collison, Vokes, Evans.
Subs: Rhys Taylor, Marc Williams, Bradley, Neil Taylor, Adams, James, Church.

France U21: Jourdren, Dabo, Kaboul (capt), Bellaid, N'Zogbia, Dia, Digard, Coutadeur, Remy, Marveaux, Gouffran.
Subs: Ruffier, Moutaouakil, Matuidi, Gourcuff, Quercia, Payet, Muratori.

Ched Evans is another City Academy graduate and is only 18 but has made his first team debut (against Norwich in the Carling Cup) and shone last season for the City under 18s scoring 16 in 23 games. He has now stepped up to play for the reserves and has continued his good form with 6 goals in 10 games this season.

His goals tonight mean his record for the Welsh U21s stands at 7 goals in 6 caps....certainly a player to look out for. <Ale>

Im surprised the Franch got beat especially with the likes of Kaboul, N'Zogbia and Gourcuff playing. I guess Kaboul just couldnt handle Evans Biggrin

I thought the young side of France were better than this, or maybe I'm just underestimating Wales.

The French squad is not terrible, well it's not as good as it used to be. Gourcuff's on the bench all the time. Most of the others are not really amazing tbh.

For many years Wales couldn't score a goal at U21 level let alone win, now after 4 games they have 3 wins and a loss and an aggregate win over FRANCE winning tonight 4-2 having been 2-1 down and having only lost away 1-0. and this despite being without 8 players already playing for the Full National side. Brian Flynn is a legend.

The future is looking bright for Wales however. Fooking Brilliant.

other players to keep an eye on are Aaron Ramsey and Darcy Blake both with Cardiff. Chelsea have already tried to buy Ramsey which resulted in the 2 youth coaches getting the sack.

also, before last night in the previous 5 qualification games france had conceded only 1 goal.

    Jed Evans interview
How refreshing to hear a footballer not trolling out any old cliches - the guy seemed genuinely lost for words, almost overcome by emotion - football, and winning, obviously still means a lot to him - and that attitude showed on the pitch as well.

I see Charles N'Zogbia played in this excellent result for the French.

And I also hear he gave away the first Welsh penalty.

Is Krimbo around to update us on these details?

He's been injured, and is too good for under 21's anyway so plays for the seniors.

Good to see Charlie Nug making waves in the international arena Biggrin
