Hannover 96 v Werder Bremen Empty Hannover 96 v Werder Bremen

Post by EMP Thu Nov 29, 2007 11:12 pm

I'm going to Germany next weekend. Will be taking in some football while there and some beers and or schnaps. Which beers and schnaps would German posters recommend. How is Hannover 96 rated in Germany? What style of play do they use? Which players should I look out for?

I'm also planning to go to a women's match while there. How seriously is women's football taken in Germany?

You should speak to anglo, she will be able to tell you all you need to know about Hannover. The team have looked decent this season when I've seen them play. They have a couple of goal-shy strikers in Lauth and Hanke, although I think Hanke has actually been decent this season. I think Huszti has been their best player when I've seen them this year, he is an attacking midfielder. They've not been in great form in recent matches although they have been tough games for them.

    re Huszti
Didn't he play left-wing against England in a friendly last year? From what I remember he absolutely belts crosses in.

Not bad, they've got the fourth best away record in the Bundesliga this season and they are in great form at the moment, winning six of their last seven league games. They should be good to watch and like to play attacking football.

El Tiki Taka: I've no idea, I can't remember much of that match.

I think Bremen would be favourites, but you never know. The league can be a bit unpredictable at times and Hannover can certainly cause Bremen problems. Bremen also have a crucial CL game a few days later so they could be distracted by that.

Have fun out there. I would like to watch a game in Germany some time in the near future. The atmosphere looks great for most matches so it should be an enjoyable experience.

I've been to Germany before. Was there for the world cup - Hamburg and Hannover. Loved it. Great atmosphere. Hope the atmosphere in Bundesliga is a good. Could any Werder Bremen fans let me know what they expect from this fixture? Is Michael Tarnat any good any more, or is he well past sell by (plays for Hannover) Anybody know style of play of Hannover? Has Wome settled in well at Werder. Really looking forward to this trip.

Normally I would prefer not to talk too much about Hannover since Wiebke might read it. Laughing Wink

But seriously, Hannover is midtable club, which plays a good season so far. Under their new coach Dieter Hecking they have somewhat improved imo, but I don´t think they have a certain style. Basically they change their system resp. the way they play depending on the opponent. Not sure how they will play against Bremen this year, but they´re usually pretty motivated against us. It´s some kind of local rivalry, but not comparable with Werder Bremen/HSV though. The stadium however will surely be sold out and the atmosphere should be quite good.

Michael Tarnat is still pretty good and unbelievable fit considering he´s 38 meanwhile and the oldest field player in the Bundesliga. The only "star" they have is probably Robert Enke, their goalie and current number three in the German national squad. A great goali and a nice fellow.

With Jan Rosenthal they also have a promising German U21 international, but like Sheffield gunner said, their best field player is probably Huszti.

I don´t think Wome has settled in Bremen. He´s injured since the end of the last season. He had an inguinal surgery last summer, but as it seems it didn´t help. What he does, where he is, what he really has, if and when he might come back is unknown. His contract ends at the end of this season, and as it seems Werder won´t extend it.

With regard to German beer, I like "Jever Pilsener" or "Berliner Pilsener" and hate all sorts of Weißbier of course Wink, but I hardly ever drink Schnaps, basically only if I have to.

Thanks Chrissi. Really looking forward to seeing this match. Will be first time I've seen a German match at the stadium. Will ask other questions in Werder Bremen thread later. You seem cursed with injuries. I thought it couldn't get worse than we had last season, but you run us (Valencia) close. Will sample your beer recommendations, so don't expect coherent posts after the match. Theoretically possible that I won't be completely hung over by the time I return though.

Anyone know how Arnold Bruggink has settled in Germany? Is he past it, or does he still have something to offer. Played twice for Oranje in 2000, got injured had a season in Spain, but didn't cut it there. Noticed he is in Hannover's squad. Does he play at all?

The best beer as in lager in germany would have to be Agustina its not easy to find though and costs about twice the amount of your regular beer. But it is definatly worth it.

Dont drink the schnaps, Jägermeister tastes like cough medicine but if you must, at least buy some red bull to mix it with.

    Laughing ok

That´s true, I wonder why so many people like it though. With red bull it´s okay, but such a combination isn`t overly healthy...

Please keep those nasty smelling energy drinks away from me--I'm still traumatised from the time my friend and I were sitting across from two rather inebriated young 'ladies' in the tram on our way home who were well into their 1.5 litres bottle of vodka plus something smelling like someone had dissolved a whole bag of gummi bears. Their conversations were pretty hilarious, though. Wink

Nah, I quite like Jever Pils myself. And my grandfather has a penchant for wine, so every time we visit them, either Mum or myself will indulge in some fine German white-wine. Wink
