    Chelsea - Eidur Gudjohnsen = ? Empty Chelsea - Eidur Gudjohnsen = ?

I note with interest that Eidur Gudjohnsen has just scored for Barcelona against Celta. During his tenure, how important was this player to Chelsea and was he underrated considering his undoubted talent? Did he make the correct decision to move considering he might not have had many starts for Chelsea this season?

I know for a fact that I feared him above many Chelsea players whenever they faced Man Utd and I was wondering if this sentiment was shared.

Gudjohnsen was one of the few technical gifted players in the EPL (must be a Scandinavian thing) look at the greats M.Laudrup, H.Larson etc

He was underrated at times (but a key member of the Chelsea team in the last 2 years, he will do well at Barcelona..)

He worked really well with Hasselbaink for a while if I remember correctly. I think under Mourinho he struggled to fit their style of play. He wasn't clinical enough to play as the striker, and wasn't really what Mourinho was looking for in the supporting role that Robben/J. Cole play. He seemed to be reinvented as a midfielder but it wasn't a position that suited his talents. I always liked Eidur, good technical ability and a good player to watch.

From the Chelsea games that I saw, I got the view that Gudjonssen is a very good player, but nothing more. He's certainly skillful, but he seems to miss chances for fun. His finishing is about as good as Emile Heskey's. He also seemed to miss a lot of chances in crucial moments/games. I can remember 2 of them in the CL: Against Monaco in the semi-final a couple of years ago he had a header with an open goal and hit the post, and against Liverpool in the semi-final he missed a sitter from 10 meters in the last minute of the game. It is because of moments like this that I am not worried that Barca has him, regardless of last night's goal.

Gudjohnsen is quality and vert versatile.

Excellent technique, vision and a very under rated finisher.

Saw him live a couple of seasons back and he was leading the line for Chelsea and he was absolute class.

He was awesome with Jimmy-Floyd in 02/03 ok

He was v popular with the fans, but tbh Im not that upset we sold him. Last season his finishing was bloody awful. I just never felt I could rely on him to convert when we *needed* him to. He scored 2 goals one from a set-piece last season.

He also learnt some bad things from JFH. He got very fat for a period of time and never totally lost it. He became lazy, but he did not have the explosive pace JFH had to compensate for it.

Decent technique though, it's true and probably our most creative player when we sold him.

But the original poster is sort of right - he was always very good vs Man United.

Eidur and Jimmy were awesome <Ale>

Guddy was a top player, but I just feel that (especially in the Prem) there were better players in each position he could play in (perhaps the problem of being so versatile is that you never settle in 1 position)

Was sad to see him go though. He'll be a top player for Barca (and doesn't mind sitting on the bench either)
