Re: January Transfers - Whats happening?
As they say Batsmen win you one days and bowlers test as bowlers are considered aggressors and batsmen defenders (defending from the ball) same applies to the league a good defence may you win the cup but its the other end a league is won IMO.

Better than Vidic, or so they say.
I've never seen him play though.
Chelsea have about 4 top class defenders if this goes through.
Does any club have central defensive options even close to that of Carvalho, Terry, Alex and (potentially) Ivanovic?
I've seem him play as a CD he's not better than Vidic. He is versatile though comfortable at RB + LB also. Will make a mistake if he joins Chelsea, sadly.

Don’t forget Ben Haim. I’ve said this will be a bad move for Ivanovic. His benefit is he’s versatile can play across the defence but: He could be 3rd choice RB, possible 3/4th choice CB and 3rd choice LB (depending if Bridge does not move) this if Chelsea’s defence are all fit. Maybe he could be a good short term buy, I fear long term.

We've got so many injuries we might need to bring in several more players.

Re: January Transfers - Whats happening?
What do people make of QPR's spending spree?
On the back of fresh investment and with the transfer window having only been open a couple of days they've already signed Fitz Hall, Patrick Agyemang, Akos Buzsaky, Matthew Connolly, and Hogan Ephraim, and got Kieran Lee and Gavin Mahon on loan. Now these aren't necessarily big name signings but it is the sort of investment that should improve their league situation quite a bit. Will this be a one-off or can we expect to see significant and increasing investment in the future?

Re: January Transfers - Whats happening?
it's interesting. they seem to be going for the harry redknapp style buy a whole bunch of players and hope a few pay off. it's a good sign for them that they're signing a few youngsters from premiership sides amongst them - shows they're thinking longterm and not just buying a bunch of journeymenSheffield gunner wrote:What do people make of QPR's spending spree?

Half of those signings look like Championship players who'll be discarded once promotion is achieved. Such is football.
Should improve them drastically though.

Rafa's apparently after Valencia's Silva, so we can expect Darren Currie or Jerome Thomas as he moves quickly down his list.
Hope we get Anelka, with him, Elano, Castillo and Petrov we would be brilliant going forward.

Re: January Transfers - Whats happening?
Greg Halford has been thoroughly unimpressive since leaving Colchester. He looked so good back then as well. One of the best three players in the championship at the start of the 06/07 season and now he's a laughing stock.
Boy does Roy Keane need to be a bit more creative in the transfer market though. This is getting ridiculous.

Re: January Transfers - Whats happening?
Rangers are so full of sh1t. David Murray claims that he persuaded Hutton to stay even though he accepted the fee proposed by Spurs.
Why didn't he just reject the offer immediately if he had no intention of selling him in the first place?
David Murray = King of Spin. Cuckoo! Cuckoo!
As I said, Murray wants him to leave and if Hutton had Murray would point at him and say 'Look! The player himself wants to leave and we can't stand in his way. Blame him.' to pacify the angry Rangers fans.
Now that he has decided to stay - as if there was ever any chance that he'd leave his wee gang of neds - Murray spins it to receive adulation from the fans. 'Look guys! I persuaded your hero to stay.' I'm sure a lot of Rangers fans will believe this spin.

He's 30, so I imagine the fee ain't too high.
Good signing for you guys. Not entirely sure how he'll settle into the EPL though. Still... he's a current Italian regular isn't he? And he's been having an incredible season!

Na...Curbishley said these Ashton rumours are bollocks...I think he hasn't used him too much as the X-mas period is busy and we don't want Ashton out for another 7 weeks!

Fernandes Poised To Return To Everton
Everton are close to securing Manuel Fernandes on another loan-deal in the January transfer window, according to the player’s agent.
Fernandes enjoyed a brief loan spell at Goodison Park last season, but fans were left disappointed after the midfielder went back on a verbally-agreed deal to become a permanent player for the Toffees.
Instead the Portuguese decided to join Valencia in a £13m move, however the 21-yr-old has become the latest star to find he does not figure in manager Ronald Koeman’s plans for the club.
Fernandes’ agent, Jorge Mendes, has now revealed that David Moyes has sanctioned another six-month loan spell for the player, and that the player may be moving to Merseyside within days, subject to formalities being tied up.
"The agreement for the loan is complete but we wait for official confirmation from Valencia,” said Mendes.
