Arsène Wenger could be forced to draft in a couple of first-team players for Tuesday’s Carling Cup Semi-Final second leg at White Hart Lane.

The Arsenal manager has a policy of playing squad players in this competition. For example, in the first leg, Justin Hoyte was the only starter to retain his place from the previous Premiership game — and the former England Under-21 international has hardly been a regular in the top-flight this term.

Wenger is without five players at the moment — three of them centre back — and, as a result, he may employ some experience.

“The players who were on the bench at Fulham will play,” he said. “But I will have to play one or two who played on Saturday because we are short in numbers.”

One reporter asked if William Gallas would be one of that duo.

“I will see,” replied the Arsenal manager. “Come to the game on Tuesday!”

I think he defintely will because this is like Spurs' World Cup final.
I'd rather we loose than risk Gallas.

I know this is a far likelier lineup than mine, but it still strikes me as an uninspiring way of shoring up the second team – I mean moving Hoyte into the middle, and adding Gilberto to the midfield? I'd much rather play Gilberto in defence and bring in a "heavyweight" like Rosicky...

Seems a bit far-fetched to me to blame our subsequent travails on that, especially given how few "key" players were involved. Still, I wouldn't consider starring more than one "first-teamer", but nor would I blub about using anyone "important" – this is one step away from the final after all.

Predictions for tonight lads? It's quite simple when the Yids are involved, their oh so repetitive.

As usual the scum will yell "Sit down you paedophile" everytime Wenger gets up. As usual we'll domnate the midfield and as usual they'll f@ck up in a winning position.

Some of the players who would have been in the squad originally are missing because of injury or international duty. Senderos, Djourou and Song are all out so we've had to bring in first team defenders. Plus we're missing or have sold a couple of squad players like Eboue and Diarra. Wenger had the choice of either going for completely inexperienced youth or bolstering the squad with first team players and he has gone for experience. Not particularly surprising considering this is a semi-final, but a little disappointing that we won't see some of the youngsters like Lansbury or Randall.

    Arsenal are playing:

    Fabianski
    Sagna
    Hoyte
    Gallas
    Traore
    Hleb
    Diaby
    Gilberto
    Denilson
    Walcott
    Bendtner

It's a strong team, with a strong bench. There can be no excuses if we lose because this isn't a youth team, even if we only have three genuine first choice players starting.
