Europe this weekend Empty Europe this weekend

Post by fcb Mon Jan 14, 2008 8:14 am

Just watched the weekend's highlights from all the major leagues...some great goals and a lot of high scoring games everywhere. Some of the better goals (those who have video links, pls post):

    - Benzema and Ben Arfa for Lyon in their 3-1 win over Toulouse

    - Porto's 3rd goal in a 4-0 win over Braga

    - Ibrahimovic's 2nd (Inter's 3rd) goal in their 3-2 win at Siena...what's spectacular is the way the ball just arrows into the corner, with no rotation on it whatsoever

    - Guardado for Depor

    - Rio Ferdinand with a great finish and even better chipped assist...and C. Ronaldo also scored a nice Ronaldinho-copy with the free-kick under the wall

    - Best of the lot though is Kevin Nolan's hook-volley from that extreme angle against Blackburn...came out of nowhere, and quite amazing ok

But...for sheer enjoyment, nothing beats this commentator's reaction when Totti and Mancini score for Roma. I've seen/heard some crazy commentators, but this is by far the strangest Laughing

Did Rivaldo score a similar freekick for Barca?

The best goal(for us)was the 3rd actually where Ronaldo controlled a very fast Tevez pass and finished beautifully.

(Mihajlovic scored 27 freekick in Seria A)

I didn't count his freekick in Brasil and with his national team.

Both Benzema and Ben Arfa's goals were of great technical quality.

benzema has such quality when he runs at players with pace and the ability to change direction and make space for himself. And his trademark curling shot round the keeper.

ok You rarely see Cristiano score goals of this quality, very Arsenalesque (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PdGabi02T-o , http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_yrXWOmtR0o ). Rio's goal was also great, the pass and finish were sublime.
The other goals were $h!t, I'm still not sure why the free kick was given, Rooney blocked Diven from stopping Tevez for the second, the ball didn't cross the linefor the 6th, and Tevez was actively off-side for Ronaldo's third Ale.

I've said it before & I will say it again: This player is the "new Van Basten" last weekend proves my theory to be near verification. The technique for the two goals sheer poetry in motion.

Also good to see in the highlights of this match that Suarez did stay on his feet a couple of times.

Yeah he wants to get rid of this image people have of him and rightly so! What was so funny was watching the highlights on British Eurosport (by Tim Caple one of the best English broadcasters) he said Ajax was close to equalling their best home win in history (8:1 win over AZ in 1971) he said this "Ajax that day had a player called Johan Cruyff who scored 6 of those goals, these days they don't have a Johan Cruyff but they do have a Jan Vertonghen!"
