This probably isn't the best place, but does anyone know what do the average wages look like in the Scottish PL??? I know Celtic and Rangers are way ahead of everyone but what does the rest of the league look like? I've found some data from late 90's- early 2000's but nothing current. I was reading about Sasa Papac glowing about his wages at Rangers, any ideas on what kind of contract he's on????

Re: Football Wages
The big 2 in Scotland certainly pay good wages, competitive with the lower mid table clubs in England, but there isn't that much money in Scotland, you only have to look at the big moves Scottish players make to League One where often the wages are significantly greater.

Re: Football Wages
I think some players have chosen to play for celtic or rangers over some EPL teams because of the wages, becasue it cannot really be much a challenge for them at least domestically
celtic and ranegrs must pay quite well, maybe better than mid-table EPL clubs, the rest of the scottish league I can only imagine, but it cannot be very high

Re: Football Wages
Well, I guess that Papac is on about £8000-10,000 per week.
Thomas Graveson is the highest paid player in the SPLs history. He earns about £40,000 per week.
Hutton went from about £10,000 to £33,000 when he moved to Spurs.
McGeady is on about £12,000-14,000 per week, I think, although he will be looking for parity with the larger wage earners at Celtic next season.
Bobo Balde is on about £35,000 per week. Hence the reason why Celtic can't get rid of him.
Here's an article about Marseille stating that they can not afford to match Balde's wages.

terrifying that a past-it Gravesen could earn so much. The Bulk wrote:Well, I guess that Papac is on about £8000-10,000 per week.

Re: Football Wages
I'm not sure debaser. I think he might have lost his motivation. He was already made the moment he signed for Real, and now Celtic are topping up his pension fund.
Actually, after some thought, I might be wrong about Tommy G. I think that wage is contingent upon him satisfying some conditions, like the amount of games he plays, how many he scores or assists, etc.

At Aberdeen I don't think anybody gets more than £2-3000 a week. At smaller clubs like Inverness or Falkirk it's probably only about £500 a week.

Nah this is nonsense. Celtic and Rangers don't pay high wages. Even rubbish epl teams can afford better wages. I'd rather play for Rangers or Celtic than Reading cl football is a big attraction and to win things. But for money it most certainly aint

i'm sure they pay high wages- they get huge crowds and are in the champions league every year - players know this and ain't going to sign on the cheap.L r d wrote:110% wrote:I think some players have chosen to play for celtic or rangers over some EPL teams because of the wages, becasue it cannot really be much a challenge for them at least domestically

Both clubs are in debt mate. Spl rights go for peanuts. Until this season usually they would spend 2-3 mill max on transfers. And again there are exceptions but 10k a week i'd say is what one of the better players would be on.

LRD
I believe the top 4-5 senior players at Rangers and Celtic are on £20,000 plus per week .
The papers in Scotland, even the good ones, usually mention the £25,000 per week figure for Barry Ferguson. There was something in the papers a while back when Tommy G signed for Celtic that compared the wages of Rangers and Celtic players.
I'm certain they spend £20,000 plus on their top players. That will only be 4 or 5 max.
The rest get the scraps.
Rangers wages at one point were ~£50 million per year. I know this because I seen their financial report. That represented 85% of their turnover.
Edit - My mistake. My memory is failing me! I have just clarified that it was actually about £38 million per year. It was £23 million per year in 1999 and rose sharply with Advocaat's signings.
Celtic
Scott Brown £25,000 per week
Balde £35,000 per week
Boruc £20,000 per week
JVoH ~£20,000 per week
Donati ~£15-20,000 per week
Rangers
Barry Ferguson ~£25-30,000 per week
Hemdani ~£15,000 per week
Cousin ~£15-20,000 per week
McCulloch ~£15,000 per week
Cuellar ~£20,000 per week

Re: Football Wages
Thats incredible.
How much were the likes of De Boer, Prso, Amoruso, Numan and Klos being paid a week during their time at Rangers?
I still can't believe Bobo Balde is on £35k a week.

I'm not exactly sure but I would imagine - and that is all it is - that they would be on anything from £20-35,000, but not more.
The de Boer brothers were probably on £30-35,000 per week.
Kanchelskis was on the same. Prodan and Seb Rozenthal were also really well paid.
Rangers have historically paid and, it turns out, wasted more on wages than Celtic.
Flo was also on about £30,000 plus per week.
Rangers and Celtic have large turnovers, large enough to be included in the top 20 rich lists that you see here and there. I doubt Rangers are in it this time around, but they have been included in the past. Celtic will certainly be there this year.
Probably about 16-20th position.

Celtic 17th, according to this.
