Today Blatter have come out and opposed any conceptions of the Old Firm playing in the EPL, but IF it were indeed to occur, where do you think both Rangers and Celtic would finish in the league?

Would one team be better suited to the EPL than another?

And do you think that over time, their positions in the league would improve as they received the financial rewards of playing in the premiership?

I'll give the answer that will eventually be typed out by someone..but in less words.

They'd be $h!t and probably mid-table for the first couple of years...but then with TV money and all that jazz and being such big clubs with big fanbases they'd eventually attract better names and probably finish top 6, possibly top 4.

Celtic would do much better because unlike Rangers, they'd remain a unique entity amongst the Prem clubs.

As a kid I used to mix Celtic and Chelsea up, but always told myself that Celtic is the good club and Chelsea a mediocre one.

If Celtic is gonna join the EPL..im afraid I have a problem ok

The biggest problem they would have, is to attract top players that other more appealing teams in the league might also want.

Put yourself in a players shoes for a moment, do you go and live in Glasgow, wheres its cold and whether you speak english or not can't understand any of the locals.

Or go to London where there are numerous top teams, where fellow national team mates might be living, and have great shops and a vast array of women and entertainment.

Irrespective of whether after a few years the revenue gave them money, ultimately i don't believe these scottish clubs have the appeal a top London team does, Manchester United, and even other english teams such as Liverpool, Villa, perhaps Newcastle that aren't based in London etc simply due to the fact these are proven Premiership teams and are far more stable. Which as a result would be in the short to medium period provide a better competitive edge by understanding the league and teams and can quite conceivably compete equally fiancially and commercially as relatively large clubs with history.

The fact is, the competition below the scottish boarder would make it in the immediate future incredibly difficult to compete at the highest level consistantly, and in the long run i believe the attraction to play for these clubs would be comprimised by joining the English league as there are many large recognised clubs they would be competiting with, the extra games at the pace of the premiership of course would affect them and larger squad would need to be created, and of course this costs.

Not to mention the fundamental questions, as to why just Celtic and Rangers are eligible to qualify and not other Scottish squads, would these two teams enter the FA Cup for example of the Scottish equivilant?

It just is not going to happen, the only way that these types of teams would ever compete with English teams in a league format is if we created a UK league including Northern Island, Wales and Scotland, this is highly unlikely as the English teams would dominate potentially setting back Wales, Scotland and N.Ireland in respect to their international teams E.G the Scottish players playing in the Champions league for scottish teams are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League if they joined the EPL, thus not helping they players to progress, unless they are bought and then of course that would be at the detriment to these clubs - loseing their best players.

Both Rangers and Celtic offer half decent players the opportunity to play in Europe and win domestic trophies giving players confidence, the issue is like many other smaller footballing leagues, since the Bosman has come into effect half decent players at top clubs in smaller leagues can run their contract out knowing other clubs are interested (agents sorting deals including player price and contract with a gentlemans agreement prior to contracts expiring for player - almost as bad as American lawyers absolutely no loyalty just focused on making money), clubs will wait untill the players contracts near the end and communicate discretely with the players agents to get these players to join their club at the lowest possible signing on cost.

Much like Chelsea tied up deals for Sidwell and Pizzarro in the summer, these types of players i would expect might give the Scottish clubs a go but they would be in direct competition with a whole host of top English Clubs, including teams that might be in Europe ahead of Rangers and Celtic

Like with all teams it would depend on who manages them and how the club is ran. They would be pretty rich, but who isn't these days?! I think they would be in exactly the same boat as the newly taken over clubs in the league. Shopping in a totally different market to the big 4, scrapping for average to good players, spunking silly money up the wall to get them, and basically pissing into the wind and never winning anything of note. This would not be a good move for them, they're better off being the big fishes in the tiny puddle, that way they can win plenty of domestic trophies and get those big glamour CL ties every year.

Personally i would be gutted if it happened, they can fu.ck off as far as i'm concerned, especially Celtic. <Ale>

Interestingly they would almost certainly make more profits (so the owners would benefit, but the fans will suffer in terms of success), yet at the same time the fans would have huge expectations, so its quite plausible the extra profit these clubs are not used to would be used to buy as you described (average to good players) i'd add young potentially talented player to that aswell mind you as opposed to saved for building the clubs such as Youth teams etc.

The one unique selling point (USP) rangers and celtic have is the fact that they could dominate the Scottish youth market.

It would also offer a direct opportunity for Scottish Managers and Coaching Staff that may be overlooked currently.

Moyes, Mcleish and Fergie are all top Scottish Managers who have joined the league at different points in time, yet proves that Scotland has infact better managers than England (exclude SAF, and the other two still $h!t on our best)

Advocaat is not welcome in this country since he subbed Robben in 2004, Ricksen is a drunk mentalist..he fits well with them.

Rangers is $h!t and always will be. Especially in Europe. Traitors of Scotland.

They would be below Boro for sure. Celtic would finish top 6 easily.

They have such lovely fans, while Rangers fans are an utter disgrace.

Downside for these teams is that they wont get the silverware they are used to if they join the EPL.

It would be stupid for the clubs themselves to want to move to the Premier League - it would mean no more European football for them to parade their hoofball and bus parking skills in.

I'm sure UEFA wouldn't give the EPL 6 CL spots if Celtic and Rangers were to join so if they succeeded in the league with a top 4 finish then it would be just two spots to share amongst the rest. Hardly an attractive proposition.
