Damn Owen just scored, have to say despite that earlier miss he has linked up play well and been one of Newcastles better performers.

Cr@p at least birmingham are losing. How can Villa be losing to a team with a worst away than us.

There must be an England game coming up because England's Michael Owen has started scoring again.

Lost. Newcastle deserved it though as we never really created anything. We really need some cutting edge as if Bullard isn't firing we only have Davies who can create and Beye had him in his pocket. We had more joy down the right but that fake american Staltieri can't cross (had plenty of chances).
Newcastle still don't have a midfield. What does Barton do? I want that job. Geremi at least made a few good crosses (both goals were his assists). Have to say Owen desite missing a sitter linked up well when dropped deep was with Geremi Newcastle most creative player.

A really vital win for us, and we deserved it, and played well at times too. Fulham had a fair amount of the ball, especially in the second part of the first half, but they never really created a lot - Bullard was lively but his shooting was wayward and their fullbacks couldn't get behind ours or provide decent crosses. For us, Martins went close in the first half, Faye had an overhead kick that rolled across the face of the goal, Owen missed his easy header. Keegan has improved our football to where we can actually keep possession well when we need to, to where we look more potent and creative on the ball. And the team spirit looks good, the players, if lacking confidence, seem happy.
No one player really excelled for us, but everyone put in a decent performance. Taylor was commanding at the back; Harper wasn't really tested but he was very safe, held the ball well in the snow; Beye didn't have one of his best games but was still solid defensively; Enrique, as he is frequently wont to be, was hit and miss - some good defensive work and some clever forward runs, showing nice footwork, with a few more mindless moments. I thought Butt had a good game again, he made a few good interceptions in the middle. Barton was okay - it was actually one of his best performances for us - but he was still sloppy at times. Geremi put in a few nice deliveries and ultimately provided the assist for the second, but he is so static, hovers around to the right of the centre circle, and sometimes slowed our play too much.
I thought our front three played well again. As Khadrim says, Owen was dropping deep and playing at times as a playmaker, at times even deeper than that. He did that a little against Birmingham, but where we predominatly played with him and Martins wide on Monday, today we often went 1-1-1 with Owen dropping, Viduka holding up the ball ahead of him, and Martins up top as an outlet. Owen played the role very effectively. His passing was good, he spread the play well, and he made a number of good runs from this deeper position (Riquelme Owen, we can call him - you can get Richaelm Owen from Michael if you move the M and add the R, and if it's not perfect phonetically, then at least it looks and sounds suitably Welsh).
I do think we will be okay now. We are 9 points from Fulham, which I think is irredeemable for them, and we're 6 from Bolton. It's a shame they got anything today, and a shame that Sunderland got an unexpected win - though as long as we are fine, I'd be glad to see them stay up, and I'm pleased for Chopra that he scored their goal. We already have a cushion in terms of points and in terms of the number of teams below us, and I imagine that we will push on from here and pick up a few more wins before the end of the season.

HT Everton 1-0 West ham
Fairly even game so far but Everton are leading thanks to a brilliant goal from Yakubu. It should have been 2-0 but Yakubu had a goal wrongly ruled offside( twas similar to Ade's last week).

Didn’t see the game but I heard Sunderland had their chances and maybe deserved to win, they have been unlucky in some away games this season (i.e. Reading) so to get their 1st away win with 7 games left in the season is a massive bonus to safety. As for Villa surely your season can tail off.

To be a fantasy football manager of course.
Being a Villa supporter must be tough because there's rarely ever excitment!
f.a cup = 3rd round exit to man utd. League = mid table safe enough to avoid a big relegation battle, but not safe enough to grab those european places!
Where's the matches that get the heart beating!

from what i heard they edged it. game of very few chances, seemed to have 0-0 written all over it, but we conceded a pisspoor goal to end a pisspoor day.Markus wrote:debaser wrote:Am I not down enough, you have to remind me we helped that creature out.Markus wrote:debaser wrote:full time. complete and absolute dogshit. not a single hint of anything vaguely positive in the entire match.

i cannot translate your last sentence about villa, but if you mean our season has tailed off, i agree. 1pt out of 3 decent fixtures is pathetic and we've got our tri-annual capitulation to utd to look forward to next week. in all honestly, the villa players in the england squad don't deserve to be anywhere near the team.

Being a UTD fan is much better though.
Every home game its a big question if the home team is gonna win again.
Every time teams like Derby and Wigan visit old trafford, the heart beating of the fans is around 180!!

Barry's been poor for a while. the whole team's been poor, but you expect people like Barry to be lifting them, so in many ways he's one of the most disappointing at the minute.

Just got back from a frustrating game. Bolton are $h!t (f@ck knows how they will score cos they have little going forward) and its between them and Brum to go down. We had two cleared off the line and could have won it, still we battled well but are not playing the fluent attacking football we did earlier in the season. Its a bit dissapointing seen as Villa and Pompey lost a win would have put us 6th but not a bad point i guess.

West Ham should have won, they were the far better side in the second half and had some fantastic opportunities. Everton are still suffering a European exit hangover and hopefully that will continue next week, if we can somehow win tomorrow then we will definately finish in the top 4 as I'd be very confident we'll beat Everton and that will be that.

Fullham seem destined for the drop now. Tis' a shame, I quite like the club.
I think if they can keep their players, they are a squad that is suited to Championship football, so will hopefully get promoted straight away again.

A shame, we are now certain to lose another London club from the top plight.
What assets do they have to sell though? At least Charlton had Darren Bent as a cash cow.

Fulham already have a Championship squad. I expect clubs will come in for Bullard, Kamarra, certainly Niemi. I can see Murphy, Smertin, Davies and Seol getting Premiership moves (probably to promoted clubs) and the whole of Europe will be in for Healy. If Bent cost £16m then you can expect double that for the first player to score 13 in a European Championship qualifying campaign.
