De Roover has been playing in midfield for us ok

Boukhari is no talent (but a brilliant player, has your opinion changed about him?) but still a youth product.

Nah, still don't like or rate Boukhari. He's got more talent than I give him credit for, but he never appears to be a teamplayer...

If we count youth product, I can also point to Holla and Kruiswijk.

Nothing wrong with the FC Groningen academy cheers

    Yes he is Ale

Every time he scores, I'm reminded of how you plugged him at the start of the season Wink

Has Metaj or Hiariej a call up for the Jong Oranje squad?

Metaj has played for the younger Oranjes, Hiariej just got his first invitation for the U23 squad (all these guys are 19 years old...).

You've a very tough group. I assume Israel have a decent squad too as they beat Russia 3-1 in the other group match.

Could be down to the fact that its currently pre-season in Russia? Or did I just make that up?

I know they have quite a big break in the winter months...

They've already played their first two matches.

If you're a Dutchie you have to keep up with a lot of competitions : Advocaat's Zenit got a draw and a win...

    Euro dream lies in tatters
By Russell Staves. Thursday, 27 March 2008.

    England - Russia 2-3

    James 45, Delfouneso 72
    Kolkorin 35, Stolyarenko 39, Pugachev 66

England's dreams of reaching the European Championships went up in smoke after they lost to Russia on Thursday.

The young Lions gave themselves a mountain to climb when Alexander Kolkorin and Alexander Stolyarenko netted before half-time. Manchester United's Matty James pulled one back on 45 minutes but Russia scored a third from Yuri Pugachev to all but end England's hopes.

Nathan Delfouneso, the Aston Villa striker, reduced the deficit with eight minutes remaining but Russia held on. With England having gleaned just one point from two games, it's impossible for them to progress as group winners.

"We're gone now," rued Head Coach John Peacock, who harboured ambitions of taking the U17s to consecutive European Championship Finals.

"We are out of it. It might have been different if we had got a point but it's not to be. This team has real potential so it's a shame they won't be going to the European Championships."

In an ironic twist, it was England's slackness in defence that caused their downfall. Prior to the tournament, Peacock's seemingly impregnable defence had kept six consecutive clean sheets, a run that was eventually ended by France on Tuesday and even that came from a wicked deflection.

Having dominated possession against Russia, England conceded three times to end their hopes of reaching May's Finals in Turkey.

"We gave away some poor goals," said Peacock. "The two we conceded before half-time cost us dear.

"We got back in the game but conceded another bad goal due to poor defending. That killed us."

While Peacock had gripes with the defence, he added that the rest of the side could have offered more when in possession.

"We had to have a bit more patience and class when we got the ball into the last third," he added. "We need to be more professional when we are playing sides like this."

England's final Elite Round qualifier is against Israel on Sunday.

England: Wesley Foderingham (Fulham), Ben Gordon (Chelsea), Matthew Briggs (Fulham), Jack Rodwell (Everton), Chris Solly (Charlton), Jacob Mellis (Chelsea, Harry Forrester, Aston Villa, 72 mins), Matty James (Manchester United), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal), John Bostock (Crystal Palace, Dean Parrett, Tottenham Hotspur, 41 mins), Cameron Stewart (Manchester United, Ryan Donaldson, Newcastle, 41 mins), Nathan Delfouneso (Aston Villa).

Subs: Declan Rudd (Norwich City), Kyle Bartley (Arsenal), Luke O'Neill (Leicester City), Jordan Mutch (Birmingham City).

    Italy U17 - Romania U17 1-1

    already played

    Spain U17 - Romania U17 2-2
    Italy U17 - Austria U17 1-1

    table:
    1. Spain 4 +1
    2. Romania 2 +0 (3-3)
    3. Italy 2 +0 (2-2)
    4. Austria 1 -1

Spain are in the driver's seat now. Italy need to beat them & hope the other match goes their way (Romania shouldn't get the same result as Italy). Spain need to win too, assuming Romania could beat Austria 2-0.

    30/3 Spain U17 v Italy U17 & Romania U17 v Austria U17.

    England prove a point
By Russell Staves. Sunday, 30 March 2008.

    Israel - England 2-2

England ended their failed Elite Round qualifying campaign by coming from behind to claim a morale-boosting draw with hosts Israel.

Just three days after a 3-2 loss to Russia ended their quest to reach the European Championship, the young Lions shelved that disappointment to share four goals with the tournament hosts.

England made a wonderful start when Jacob Mellis put his side ahead on 11 minutes, stroking home Ryan Donaldson's cut back to conclude a slick move.

The Chelsea starlet has also been in goalscoring form for his club in The FA Youth Cup this season.

Donaldson then squandered a glorious chance to double his side's lead. Having been fouled in the box, the Newcastle forward picked himself up but watched in horror as his penalty was saved.

While England's quest to reach the European Championship had already been terminated prior to kick-off, Israel harboured their own ambitions of reaching May's Finals. They needed to beat England and hope France would fail to beat Russia.

Israel gave themselves a chance when Mohammed Gadir levelled on 38 minutes.

Samir Hakim then struck after 62 minutes but England fought back and grabbed a share of the spoils when Aston Villa forward Nathan Delfouneso charged down the right, playing a one-two with Donaldson before slotting home.

France, who beat Russia, progressed through to the Euros.

England: Declan Rudd (Norwich City), Luke O'Neill (Leicester City), Matthew Briggs (Fulham, Ben Gordon, Chelsea, 60 mins), Kyle Bartley (Arsenal), Jack Rodwell (Everton), John Bostock (Crystal Palace), Jordan Mutch (Birmingham City), Jacob Mellis (Chelsea, Matty James, Manchester United, 29 mins), Harry Forrester (Aston Villa, Cameron Stewart, Manchester United, 77 mins), Ryan Donaldson (Newcastle), Nathan Delfouneso (Aston Villa).
