Re: If England fail to qualify
A mixture of distraught and fairly happy. Distraught that I'll have a month of hell next summer, but fairly happy that McWankstain gets shown up for what he really is, a severely limited manager that should never been appointed.

Re: If England fail to qualify
Quite gutted. 4 years ago I'd of been distraught, however I've severly gone off this England team.
It might even be better for us in the long run.

Re: If England fail to qualify
Quite gutted as well. I don't care for this England side at all, and haven't done for a while now, but I would still be disappointed if we did not qualify.
I would say that at least it gives an opportunity to make some much-needed changes to football in this country, but in truth I can't see that ever happening. Various sections of English football will come in for horrendous stick from the press, the FA will talk about making changes, but I can't see any meaningful changes occurring.

Re: If England fail to qualify
Well, the sacking of McClaren would be a cert and it might make them think about Barwick's (in)competency as well. And it might stimulate the 'we need a clairefontaine' debate again.
We certainly don't have anywhere near the quality of some international clubs, but we easily have the quality to qualify for major championships! Jesus wept, we've got to the Q/Fs of the last three major tournaments

What is so funny that is van Basten who is worse than McClown when it comes to International Football is one win away to qualify for Euro 2008 (plus England have a better defence)

Re: If England fail to qualify
I won't be gutted, but just a tad bit sad. Living in England, its good to see them in big championships as it adds to the atmosphere during the summer!!
I hope this makes the FA realise that England needs a top coach, and not necessarily an english coach. Countries like Italy and Holland can afford to always have a local coach coz they have so many talented top coaches. England does not have that luxury, and the FA need to realise that. Sven was a step in the right direction, and they needed to continue from there and get someone like Scolari/Hiddink/Lippi/etc to take the next step.

Re: If England fail to qualify
The whole thing needs changing,
- they need a foreign coach now with the bottle to drop the NAMES
- but they also need a new youth system, policy, national academy centre
- with BETTER youth coaches
- so coaches to coach the coaches
- a system for developing english wc managers so that in future they have good options to appoint an english manager.
- they need to develop a better relationship with the press and media

Sven was competant enough. He just ddin't play the right style for England. English fans expect their national team to play in a certain style, which would be much better matched IMO but someone like Hiddink, or Lippi.
The only English coach I'd possibly think up to the task is Harry Redknapp - he's reasonably experienced and plays the right style of football to keep the England fans happy, but he thinks Lampard is world class, so maybe not.

Re: If England fail to qualify
that wont work parky hence my comment, do this and the press will be even more ruthless in their reporting. It ain't an easy one cos you'll always get a loose cannon but they need to try and stop the sensationalist reporting

Re: If England fail to qualify
That works if you are doing poorly and you need the media onside. If you're doing good, then tell them to f*ck off. Basically what Fergie does.
Thats why whenever we have a slight dip the vultures come out.

The Dutch still remember how they did under foreign managers (Faderonc and *legend* Happel) : to us a foreign manager isn't necessarily a bad manager....
I'd love to have the Czech national manager (Bruckner ?) manage us, or Mourinho...

This is clever on so many levels. Wont have to write too many.
Personally, I'll be upset if England dont qualify. Not sure a massive amount will change if we dont- post 1994 for example, there wasnt a massive overhaul a la France.
Eitherway, even if we were the worst team in the World I'd still support them. In football you have no choice- its a show of true mettle to support a Cr@p team, something a lot of fans never have to worry about should they be Brazilian Milan fans for example ;-)
I'll be supporting the Oranges of Holland should England not qualify, although Im a little annoyed at how everyone, including the English press, seems to think Hiddink is some kind of "genius", when infact Russia will have benefitted from a massive stroke of luck in the form of a wrongly given penalty decision to them in the game against England. His record against English opposition is piss poor in general, but all forgotten thanks to one game.
The man is an excellent manager, but he's not the Messiah either; did well for South Korea thanks to some abhorrent refereeing decisions, and got his comeuppance against Italy in the last World Cup when his Australian side lost to a dodgy penalty. I put it down to karma

I love the way that the most popular option at the moment is "delighted"
All this about "improving the atmosphere" next summer – am I the only person planning to actually be there??
And you are telling me that Frank has a saucy avatar of the Conservative Shadow Culture Secretary! Confounded!

That's a clueless comment Bernd, as Blut would disapprovingly tell you were he here, the documentary was always going to be made whatever happened, the director Sönke Wortmann having accompanied the squad and crew for at least a year previously. Naughty of you.
Don't get your question marks.

Dont be such a drip Allez, cant a man indulge in some fair humoured banter with Mr Deisler? Would you be happy to leave such a comment by Trees in the German thread unchallenged? I think not!
Just because you Jarmans are the self styled best in Europe, doesnt mean you shouldnt be subject to some baiting, especially if its being dished out with such glee
