Idiot of a Kluivert, the world lay at his feet at the age of 19....it's almost a *criminal* waste of talent that he didn't go on to be the best player ever Evil or Very Mad

That game seemed to be brutal just from those highlights. Some good parts were:

Van Hanegem pass to Rensenbrink (0:58-1:00) Ale which lead to a great pass to Cruijff and equally great shot on goal well saved. You could see the fluidly of play in the team, the two goals were well executed, Cruijff perfect pass to Neeskens and then Ruud Krols run and cross pinpoint to Cruijff whose volley went down in history. Must be one of the best goals he has ever scored.

What the hell was going at (2:28-2:35) when Cruijff looked at the Brazilian player (Pereira) shirt number and then pointed to the referee to book him?

This game seems to be legendary in its own right, Tim Vickery : “Brazilian football was thrown into confusion by the great Holland side of 1974. The Dutch are remembered for their constant inter-changing of positions, but they also put enormous pressure on the opposition when they wanted the ball back.

Brazil tried to copy them in 1978 and when that didn't work, they tried to turn the clock back under their last romantic coach, Tele Santana, in 1982 and 1986.”

It was. There was far more allowed those days. If a modern ref would ref that match he would have sent at least 6 players off. That's the beauty of that match stunning football & very hard tackles. What they did to Neeskens throughout that match. Dutch were rough too. Van Hanegem was the best player & biggest bastard on the pitch.

That's not the only time Cruyff did that (telling a player to turn around for the ref). Cruyff tells everybody what to do even the ref. Typical Cruyff. He could be very irritating.

If you watch the match in full you must watch the offside rulings. Holland are very lucky sometimes. Because linesman weren't used to the way Holland used playing a high defence playing for offside as an offensive weapon, they usually stuck up their falg because the attacker was clear & all defenders stuck their arms up appealing for offside. V Brazil 2 times a Brazilian player was onside...

I’m somewhat proud in saying that my father attended the game (actually has some good photos of the game), he told me the neutrals in the crowd and some of the opposition fans kept booing Cruijff, jealousy I say No , something tells me that Neeskens was targeted, he had the last laugh. Suurbier trying to look innocent after going into a challenge and the Brazilians surrounding him brought a smile to my face, but was a great pass to find him.

Was the high defensive line something Michels worked on, he was a great exponent of the offside trap? Considering that the style of football the team was playing, at times it was possible someone like Cruijff or Jansen (lets says) could be in the defence, such discipline was needed. This is why no team today can technically play ‘Total Football’ in its purest form.
