    Post by Sgoater1 Tue Mar 25, 2008 1:17 pm

    CITY have expressed an interest in Barcelona's 18-year-old forward Giovani dos Santos, according to the player's father Zizinho.

    Mexico international Dos Santos broke into Barca's senior squad last season, but the rise of fellow young star Bojan Krkic has limited his appearances in the Catalan giants' starting XI this year.

    "There is interest from Manchester City," Zizinho told Mexican newspaper El Universal.

    "However, I cannot give more information now as Giovani's agent is the one in charge of all this, it's him who is dealing with negotiations.

    "I can't say for sure if Giovani will go to another team. There are still games to play in La Liga and while there are he's only thinking about Barcelona.

    "We don't want to get ahead of ourselves, there is interest but first he has to concentrate on Barcelona."

    Dos Santos has played 25 times for Barca this season in all competitions, scoring once in a Champions League game with Stuttgart.

    Would love to sign him, as long as price is right.

    Some people said that about Torres. Id have Dos Santos, he is young and very talented, Sven could turn him into a star but i wouldnt want ot get ripped off for him.

    Not sure but cos of their many attacking options they are thought to be willing to let him go expecially with the emergence of Kirkic.

    He has been really hyped up. He's not been overly impressive but that doesn't mean he can't make something of himself. He's very young. But I think he's more likely to get his ankles broken than to set the league alight if he moves to England.

    23.5 according to some sources - who knows what the truth is when it comes to transfer fees?

    Both play(ed) for wannabe clubs too. It's a tragic story of the ongoing Eurocentric industrial colonialism of football.

    I think he's quite strong for his age. I don't think it's his strength that has let him down thus far, just poor decision making, and a general inability to beat his marker.

    I think he has promise though. He was thought highly of before his breakthrough (not just at Barca)

    After the U17 WC he suddenly was the new Ronaldinho. That must have been because of his hairdo, because I watched the U17 WC & he played well, but no way near worldclass (poor shot, egocentric, not a great footy brain). Never impressed me thereafter; the kid is obviously talented, but don't think he'll ever be (close to) worldclass.

    @Calidad

    My comment wasn't directly in reference to his strength - rather I could envision him on the receiving end of more than one crunching tackle after holding the ball too long (a case of the bad decision making you mentioned, and rightly so).

    @De Guzman

    He was also largely unimpressive in the two matches I saw him play at the U20 WC last summer. He's got some tricks, ok, but all of the faults you mention are very obvious when you watch him play.

    Yep.

    Don't know what City would have to pay for him. If (close to) nothing it's worth a gamble (still wouldn't sign him myself). If it's over 5M, I know better players same aged players.

    Yeah, Jaime/Calidad/De Guzman are on the money with a list of his weaknesses. I'll also add an inflated ego because of how quickly he's got into the Barça team as well as Mexico...but unlike Bojan or other Mexican youngsters, he hasn't actually done anything significant.

    This rumour is no surprise. He's been linked to loads of clubs because of his contract situation (supposedly about to expire but no one is really sure) and it'll only increase now that we're getting closer to the summer transfer window. And of course, it doesn't help that his agent is Pini Zahavi, who won't hesitate in moving his client to the club that pays the most, regardless of which will be best for his development right now.

    Giovani wants Barca stay

    Giovani Dos Santos has stated that he has never considered leaving Barcelona amid fresh rumours that Manchester City could be set to make a move in the summer.

    The Mexican starlet has been linked to various clubs since being promoted to the Blaugrana first team, but he has rejected any notion that he wants to go.

    While City are the latest club to show an interest, Chelsea and Liverpool have both made tentative enquiries according to reports in England and Spain.

    "I cannot avoid rumours about me going to the Premier League or to any other place," Dos Santos told a press conference.

    "I just live in the present. I am here now and what I would like most is to be here next season and for many more years after that if it is possible.

    "It has never entered my head to leave Barcelona."

    Injury

    While Dos Santos is said to have irritated the Camp Nou board by asking for a higher salary, he has been pleased with the faith that the coaching staff have shown in him.

    Proposed surgery on a troublesome left ankle has been postponed until the summer and he has had several painkilling injections after being told he is needed to play.

    "I have spoken to the doctors, the coach and the technical secretary and we have reached an agreement that I would have an injection," Dos Santos continued.

    "I have already had three of them and I am improving and have been given the all clear by the doctors.

    "The decision is, I think, the correct one for me and the team. When the season finishes I will have an operation, but I am very pleased with the confidence that the club has put in me."

    Ireland is not as good as most think, as all city season ticket holders and 90% would say they dont want him in the first team. He can be awsome but only once in every 6 games at least, the rest of the time he is frustrating and does f@ck all. Dos Santos is better than him.
