I came across the following article featuring an interview with Claude Le Roy. http://empower-sport.com/index.php?categoryid=1&p2_articleid=131

In that article he claims that part of the reason he was sacked by Strasbourg at the turn of the century was because he opposed racism. Has anyone heard about this before. What do the French think of Le Roy both for his fight against racism and as a coach? Is he claim credible, or just an excuse for poor performances or a mixture of both?

I don't know know whether or not this story is true, because I Starsbourg is not a club famous for being racist. I think Le Roy is better at coaching national (African) teams than club wise. I don't remember him being successful at club level tbh.

From memory he was not successful at Strasbourg. He came there after his second spell at Cameroon and brought in some Cameroonian players, who were not great for Strasbourg. He said that those players were racially abused and the French right took advantage of this to engineer a problem for him . Strasbourg not only did not support him but used it in part to sack him. I am surprised that his claim has not been more widely reported. He has coached at club level in Africa and Asia as well as at Strasbourg. Don't know how successful he was with them though.

Also not sure how great a coach he is at national level either. He has only succeeded once as far as I know with Cameroon in 1988. Even though Ghana has offered him an extension - he is waiting until June to decide - he should have done better in ACN. I still think Egypt would have won because they were the best on and off pitch, but I thought limitations in his coaching were exposed. For example the persistence with Asamoah Gyan as an out and out striker. He isn't. He can be a decent support striker, but Agogo played that role and got more goals even though he was unselfishly trying to provide goals for Asamoah to score. Le Roy keeps saying that Asamoah is a fantastic striker when the evidence for club and country suggests that he isn't. Striker is a problem position for Ghana and he is not fixing it. Not at all certain that he is right coach for Ghana.
