well u have left out the two star ones at the world cup mate Wink

personally in terms of both defensive and attacking ability and who i would like in my team i couldn't really choose between lahm, grosso, riise and ashley cole.... pretty hard to choose a significant best player if you want to say zambrotta is a right back

You missed out Fabio Grosso and Philip Lahm two of this Summers stars in Germany.

I still rate Zambrotta very highly.

@ axe.... don't know enough about him for a firm judgement and it's foolish to base opinions on just a few games but he did produce easily the worst individual performance of the WC in one of the games

Cole is living on his reputation. In the final against Barca he was shite, I remember Marquez playing at lest four diagonal balls straight to Giuly. Then in the World Cup against Paraguay Caniza and Bonet (I think?) tore him apart on the overlap.

Zambrotta is. I don't care if he played as a rightback for Italy, he's spent most of the past 3 seasons as a leftback.

Abidal is so awesome. Looked out of his depth for France sometimes (no wonder after all his injuries this year. Not at full fitness), but for Lyon he is THE man.

He had just got back from a lengthy injury. Its unfair to judge him on that. In hindsight though we should have kept on playing Flamini.

Zambo is the best in the world. Dont care if some people say he is a right back-hes not. Hes is equally adapt in either position and just because he played right back for Italy this world cup and for juve last season doesnt make him just a right back.

Same can be applied for other players tho. We've seen Gallas at centre and left. He is a very very good left back, and a right back but is best in centre. This is where i agree with kevin. Zambos best place is Left Back and he shows that wen he plays there.

It is different though. No one would deny that Gallas is at his best in the centre, he is just also very good at right and left back.
For Zambrotta, as he is two footed, he is equally good in both position-hes the best fullback in the world.

I don't think he's the best in the world (though I do think he's incredibley underrated, even within the context of the premiership), but he's actually the member of the back 4 that's caught out the least amount of times defensively. Atleast according to Oliver Anderson's statistics in the Red Revival.

The only mistake I can remember from him last season was the header that fell into Drogba's path for his goal in the FA cup semi. He's generally solid defensively, but the fact that he's so eager to go forward seems to overshadow it.

I have always rated him very highly it's prety criminal to me that he's not up there, for me if Cole's up there then so is Riise

I have seen him caught out defensively on quite a few occasions but i can't be assed to debate.....

He has pretty much everything he's comfortable when going fowrd, got a good cross on him he's quick he's big he's strong. He's good in the air. And he has an absolute lethal shot on him.

Ashley Cole for me panic's as soon as he get's near the box, he mostly serves as a dummy runner rather then an actual outlet
