the new order... Empty the new order...

It seems like barely a week passes without another premiership club being involved in a takeover bid from mega rich foreign investors. The latest club that looks like benefiting from this kind of take over is west ham, with villa and Portsmouth also joining this exclusive club in the last year.
Do people think this is good for the premiership?
Or does that just depend on what club you support?
Are fans of Arsenal, Chelsea (to a lesser extent), Man Utd and Liverpool worried by these clubs suddenly having a lot more clout in the transfer market, and that champions league qualification will in the next few seasons be not such a given for these clubs?
It seems to me that these ‘nuveo riche’ clubs could be about to upset the applecart of some of the premierships traditional big boys and start challenging for the champions league spots. This could lead to (including spurs who don’t seem to be short of a bob or two) eight clubs having a chance of the title, which could be very exciting and probably good for the English game.
Of course for fans of clubs outside of this elite-set it just means the chances of your team getting into Europe or surviving in the premiership has just got a lot slimmer. Yet, to be honest, their has been a tier system within the premiership for most of its existence- only three teams have won it in last ten years. Does the enlargement of the top tier actually change anything for the fans of clubs such as Fulham or Middlesbrough, who could never realistically expect to challenge the established big boys?

it's a tough question. it's not nice to see clubs 'buying' success - but then all successful clubs these days 'buy' their success - or at least buy to maintain success. are clubs really any more deserving of success if they fund multi-million pound transfer fees and wages from huge sponsorship deals and tv money than those who fund them from new investors?

as a villa fan i'm obviously biased towards this. outside investment is the only way we are ever going to realistically get near the top of table again - the amount of money champions league qualification gets you means that the teams who qualify one year have also got a huge advantage towards qualifying the next year, and so it goes on.

so anyway, it should increase competitiveness and hence excitement of the premiership. however, as you point out, the clubs outside top 4 who don't join the new order will be getting pushed further and futher away, and how sustainable all this is remains to be seen.
