And with Ronaldo playing like he did this year great things could happen for you. Each time we played against you it was really difficult. The only thing you lack a little is a good striker, like Pauleta 6 years ago. You have great midfield players and defenders but unfortunately no world class striker. Maybe Scolari will give him a similar position he has a t Man utd. This could be very good for you.
I think this might be your year, it's about the time for Portugal to win something.

Portugal havn't played well in a long time. Not only do they lack a striker, they lack a top quality LB too. They have great depth in certain positions, and none at all in others. Any midfield with Petit in it is not great. I think Ronaldo will be burnt out aswell. They do have a good team chemistry there which could get them far.

Petit is a holding midfielder, and is best position is right in front of the back 4. He has the stamina and self sacrifice to run himself to the ground if need be in prol of the team. And in view that a lot of our midfielders are under 23 or thereabout... age becomes a rank

No, he has no more outbursts than other players. He's thought of quite highly, particularly after coming in for Andrade in the world cup. A good versatile player, that rarely lets us down.

    Nuno Gomes official captain.

Reported line-up for tomorrow's last freindly match before the Euro:

    ----------------Ricardo
    Bosingwa--Pepe--Carvalho--Ferreira
    --------Moutinho-----Petit
    -----------------Deco------
    ----Ronaldo-------------Simão
    -------------Nuno Gomes (c)

    =================
Petit is there to provide experience I guess; I expect him to be subbed-off quite a bit as he doesn't have the technical ability of either Veloso or Meireles.

Personally, I'd play Hugo Almeida ahead of either Gomes or Postiga.

Keeping Quaresma and Nani on the bench is going to be hard; these guys are too good not to play.

If we start with that same team i can see Euro 2004 all over again i can see us losing the first game then Scolari will ring the changes.

We were lucky to survive a bad start four years ago but if we get a bad start this time it could be fatal.

Is the game live on RTP?

Miguel wouldn't play there in any case. Ferreira does a decent job, much better than I think Miguel could do on that side.

In any case, Ferreira is considered a LB with Portugal and not a RB as Miguel.

what is Nuno Gomes link up play like these days?

how many goals did he score for Benfica this season?

what you need is a striker that can help get the best out of Ronaldo.

previously i thought Ronaldo performed better for Portugal than Man Utd.

after scoring 42 goals for Man Utd this season, i can't wait to see what he does at the Euros.

Great goal by Moutinho. Portugal are really blessed when it comes to the more forward thinking midfielders.

Quite a Premier League interest as well with Ronaldo, Carvalho, Ferreira and Chelsea's new rightback Boswinga all playing.

Moutinho can actually play anywhere in the mid really, not just going forward.
Personally, until this season I'd say his best performances came as DM.

Nuno Gomes, bad situation. I don't know how much blame he can really take considering he didn't get the ball, but the truth is I doubt things will get much better.

How he's playing for Portugal I don't know; he's not even the best at Benfica.

I didn't know you could get an assist on a penalty..
But of course it was his pass that opened up the oportunity in the first place.

His pass to Moutinho came off a completely screwed up set play; he simply pushed it off to the guy next to him as he couldn't get his shot off any more.

I'm not nocking, just telling it as it is. Yes, you'd hope he could at least make some passes wouldn't you? He is after-all a pro footballer.

His energy, dedication and occasional good play still doesn't cover-up the fact that he's not at the level of Portugal's top midfielders. He has a good mid-range shot, but you'd have to admit his technical ability just isn't of the highest standard.

Still, do I think he had a good game? Yes, he was his usual bruising self and kept the tempo high... at least he tried to.

Quim out with a fractured wrist.

Porto's Nuno is said to be the replacement should Uefa allow one.
