I thought this merited a separate thread...
Napoli are on verge of qualifying for Europe in their first season back in top flight. Under new and dynamic ownership and management, Napoli have been going from strength to strength last 3 seasons, going from Serie C1 to Serie B to Serie A to UEFA Cup/Intertoto qualification.
With talented players like Hamsik, Santacroce, Gargano, Calaio, & Lavezzi combining with top club rejects like Blasi, Zalayeta, P Cannavaro, Domizzi, & Dalla Bona, the Partenopei are back.
Prez Laurentiis has promised to spend money to ensure that Napoli revive the glory days of 80s, when the Ma-Gi-Ca dazzled the world (Maradona-Giordano-Careca). Napoli have an advantage, they are literally the most supported team south of Rome, from where a bulk of italian talent comes from... players like Cannavaro, Di Natale, Quagliarella, Borriello, Nocerino, Palladino, etc are die hard fans of the club, and have spoken of their dream to wear that jersey one day. Ditto with many top coaches, with the talented Mazzari rumoured to be already discussing a contract with the Partenopei (Sorry, Deano!). Now that Napoli have the money, the ambition and the stage that would interest players of that calibre, getting some of these stars is not off limits.
This is going to be an interesting summer, specially if Napoli make the UEFA Cup... They are a club who would go after it, and will spend money to further improve their squad. Laurentiis has spoken of his objective to making the CL next season,which means that he plans to build a squad capable of challenging the likes of Milan, Inter, Juve, Roma and Fiorentina over an entire season!
