    Question

    think about it

after the glorious 70s with Vogts, Netzer, Heynkes... they produced the likes of Lothar, then a bit later Effe, then Deisler and now Marin

    +

    endless others

so, unlike West Ham, they are not limited to ONE generation only

what makes Gladbach special, me wonders

Gladbach's youth setup traditionally is one of the very best in the country, it was always their strenght. ok

If Gladbach only had some capable commercial managers in the 1970s, Germany would have had two clubs of Bayern Munich's caliber by now. At least.

Marcell Jansen as well. I assume that he will be your first choice leftback at Euro 2008.

I agree with Senor, Sporting have a knack of producing great players time after time.

Ronaldo, Simao, Nani, Viana & Quaresma are all youth team products as was Figo in the past. Veloso & Moutinho are to make Sporting another fortune soon.

Best Gladbach match ever. But a worthless victory though.
The uefa annuled the result because of playacting by Boninsegna. Grr

    As for the talents:
Gladbach defintely has one of the best academies in Germany. It just exists just since 2001 (like most academies in Germany).
So players like Jansen were the first crop.

Marin is from Eintracht Frankfurt academy though. But he was to small and lightweight for them.lol!
Sad but true, he won´t stay a long time in Gladbach. He´s just to good for us.

Agreed. He'll just need to get rid of the black stripe(s) on his shirt, the other colours are fine. Thank you Gladbach, and thank you Eintracht. ok Very Happy

Werder would be the ideal next step for him.
Better than ending up at Bayern as a Ribery backup.

    Sad

Don't we get a discount? I mean, we are a friendly club, and it would be in his best interest!

If it was up to me, I'd pay those €10m without a blink. And it's not like Werder couldn't afford that, but rather if they want to. I wanted us to sign him last year already, when he hadn't even made it in Gladbach yet, and was rather unknown. Just check out the Mannschaft / Werder thread.

Whatever you do, don't sell to Bayern though, seriously. Really don't want to see another promising talent wasted on the bench there, especially not Marin. They should loan out Kroos at least, the lad could have been in the Euro squad also.

Less than 10 Million? How much did you pay for Carlos Alberto then?Laugh
Because of him you have to postpone your stadium plans.

He should have stayed in Rostock, like his younger brother.
He would have been a certain starter there. Maybe they could have avoid relegation with him.

Nah, the stadium disaster has different reasons, definitely not Carlos Alberto (who is ridiculously talented btw., but has a very shitty attitude). We are just stingy, that's all. Apparently, we now have a 'Festgeldkonto' of €50m also, to be 'prepared for bad times'. That's what hanseatic business ethic does to you...

Agree on Kroos, he should have stayed in Rostock indeed. Kids like him need match practice foremost, as can be seen in Marin's case.

I don´t understand the treatment of Kroos at Bayern.
Ok, he gets his 20 minutes...at least sometimes. But it´s not enough. He could have played instread of Schweinsteiger, who got slightly stronger at the end of the season. I don´t want to talk about Sosa, who aroused pity for the entire season. Bayern could have given him some match practice for 90 minutes, at least in the last two or three games, when they were already champions.

He didn´t play for German youth teams for half a year.
Now, that Marin is in the Mannschaft, Dejagah and Özil are injured, why didn´t Eilts call him up for tonight U21 friendly against Denmark Question

Kroos doesn't get called up for the German youth teams anymore because Hoeness doesn't want him to. Apparently, he is afraid of the 'hype' he would cause.

Kroos definitely should ask the club to play for the U21, this über-protective approach Bayern show in his case doesn't help his career. Maybe Hoeness is paranoid after the Deisler disaster? I don't know.

He is definitely good enough to play for the U21 already.

This could be an explanation. But it´s wrong as you pointed out.
Deisler was a real talent. But he was the only one back in ´98, ´99. He was some kind of messiah, for the media and felt the pressure from day one.

Kroos has bags of talent, but he is not the only one.

This protective Bayern approach doesn´t make young players better.
As a young player you have to learn to handle the hype. If you don´t you will never make it. And Kroos seems to be down to earth and solid enough not to end up like Deisler.
Let´s hope Klinsmann will boost him.
