I doubt ANYBODY wants Gerrard, the footballer

Gerrard, the marketing board is more interesting though

Gazza put Seria A on the map in in England

Golden Balls had Englanders glued to La Liga

but frankly, the big market is Asia these days

AIG admitted that the main reason they paid big bucks was to penetrate the Asian markets

if anything, it's surprising that the likes of Barca and Milan are not trying to buy English players as shirt sellers more

Barca chasing Neuer or Milan going for Marin has ZERO marketing effect though

ie, it's all about their quality as footballers

I can't get that link to work for some reason. Which Friedrich is it? Arne or Manuel? Neither are anything special, Roma can do better than them.

I've made my thoughts on Gomez well known already, although I hope he stays at Stuttgart this summer.

Tasci? I haven't seen him play much this season in the Bundesliga, has he been injured?

Marin looks like an excellent prospect from the little I've seen of him. I would expect him to stay in Germany though.

Merte is obviously a good defender, even if he had a disastrous game at the weekend! It would be a big blow for Bremen to lose him.

I don't think Barca should be going for Neuer yet. He still has a lot to learn, and whilst he puts in brilliant performances he does still make too many mistakes for a top club. He needs to develop at a good club, but where he isn't under quite as much pressure, and where he is playing regularly.

    Arne Friedrich

Gomez has just said again that he wants to stay at Stuttgart; but the commercial manager now admits that clubs will be lining up more and more and that he will be difficult to keep

not sure what's up with Tesci now, anglo will know

Marin is going to be a sensation but has to learn to score as well

Merte could be on his way to Bayern at the end of the season, one later max

Neuer is most the highly rated keeper talent in Germany; Sammer is 100% sure he'll be the best goalie in the world very soon; not stable enough yet though

I wonder whether Leverkusen can keep Adler for ever; surely, every single top club from ManU to Arsenal, Milan, Barca and Juve will be offering him locally raised virgins on a platter soon

If Marin goes to a club other than Werder, chrissi will have a fit to end all fits, me thinks. Wink

Biggrin Ah, sorry! I keep on accidentally-on-purpose misspelling his name. Wink Arne Friedrich is a solid centre half but awful to watch at RB. Though I guess you shouldn't ask me about him, I'm pretty biased.

    Gomez up for grabs?

    Monday 10 March, 2008

Italian clubs have been alerted to the news that Stuttgart may consider offers for star striker Mario Gomez.

The German international has been linked with a number of Serie A outfits in the past and the Bundesliga giants have today admitted that he won’t stay until the end of his current deal.

“We’re not so naïve as to think that he’s going to stay at Stuttgart for the rest of his career,” sporting director Horst Heldt told Sky Sports.

“It’s unrealistic to think that Mario will stay until the end of his contract in 2012, although we obviously hope to keep him for as long as possible.”

Gomez, a key figure for Stuttgart, signed a contract renewal with his current club in the summer of 2007.

Prior to that, he was thought to have been targeted by Juventus before they convinced David Trezeguet to sign a new agreement.

Fiorentina and Milan have also been associated with the forward in the peninsula, while clubs in Spain and England are aware of his talent too.

Gomez is currently at the top of the Bundesliga scoring charts, alongside Italy and Bayern Munich ace Luca Toni, on 14 goals.

Much better day of transfer rumours on the Roma front. We've been linked with Crespo, half of the Fiorentina team, Vargas, Lorik Cana and Tiago.

Crespo has actually stated that his dream is to play with Totti before he retires:

"Here I am well and I want to stay, but the Giallorossi are a great team and it is normal to dream about playing with [Francesco] Totti in the future," said Crespo.
