Why do you like Holland?

Lets face it, apart from some Germans, everyone loves the Dutch team for some reason...why is that???

The colour? The way they play? The hate for the German team?

I like that you keep us company in the doldrums of penalty taking.

If that's the case, shouldn't you rather not support them? Because if they win something again, it will make you look even worse, the worst 'underachievers' in international football. The same applies to those who support Spain.

We've all naturally played as Dutch teams on football games while never touching the Germans. Then there's of course the midget midfield, which is only 8 inches smaller than Engelaar!

I don't support them. Wouldn't mind them winning, but not a particular fan. I was just trying to think of something to fit the thread.

Anyway, I don't care about other teams winning things and making us look "worse". I'd rather see different teams than the usual suspects win. Fans of teams who win regularly tend to get a bit smug

12 years are aeons in Germanic terms, 12 years of hurt are more than enough. It almost feels like we are Uruguay for God's sake.

No I believe there is more behind it, when you see rioting africans with a footballshirt on tv..they riot in an Oranje or a French shirt..not a German one.

Germany is just too boring for them africans..just like the Adidas commercials are always worse then the Nike ones.

Holland=Exciting

Anyway, I wish you all the best in ending you aeons of pain on a personal level - although on a banter level, obviously I wish Germany nothing but an excrutiatingly agonising penalty shoot-out loss in each of the next half dozen tournaments

Well first of all, because of you Fey, obvius, you make very easy to like Holland.

But also, because its hard to hate beauty, and when Holland plays their style they can be very good to watch, shame that Van Basten doesnt agree with this and you are pretty bad these days.

Those are good reasons Juli, very good infact!

I like Holland because they are the opposite of Germany; nice shirts, good haircuts, great skill, no diving, sportmanship, all the good aspects of the game are in the dutch

Well everyone can look at Holland at least we have won more as less as them so if even they win something it doesnt matter ,2ndly you can count on them to not win.

Holland:

- Little country

- Attacking football

- Great midfield players & forwards

- Excellent support base (went to Amsterdam during the euro 2000, crazy atmosphere, tons of people wearing orange shirts, or was it the shrooms?)

- V. Good managers.

By the way I don't love Holland, I just respect their football.

Because we (apparently) have beer-bikes : a bike for ten persons and a beer tap in the middle

Apparently they often cause upsets in traffic (duh), so Amsterdam is taking measures against this bike of all bikes

Well its because, for all their history, colour, managers and players, they don't win much - and everyone likes that about them, as they don't seem to take themselves too seriously: its more about the party and the fun than the silverware.

Hoevever, should they ever start winning ugly and develop that arrogance a la Germany mach 2 - the general positivity for them will dissipate.
