Inter have allegedly signed 16 yr old Coutinho from Vasco da Gama, for EUR 10 Million!!!! Wow, this kid better be good!!
Anyone know about this kid? Apparently he will stay at Vasco on loan for another year, and then join Inter Primavera.

Inter in Mourinho's formation (currently)...
Starting XI:
Second XI
Third team players:
I can understand Mourinho's interest in Muntari - Inter may need more midfield backups for this formation... but we probably need to sell some strikers, have 1-2 extra ones... and if we buy more wingers (Quaresma?) then this will be even more important.... I just don't see why Mourinho would want to sell Stankovic - we clearly need more quality midfield players.
Starting XI:
Cesar
Maicon - Cordoba - Samuel - Zanetti
Vieira - Stankovic - Cambiasso

Here's some info I read about Coutinho months ago...
This player could turn out to be the next Pele, if he continues to show is incredible talent for the Brazil U15s and Vasco De Gama.
He is only 15 years of age and he has already been strongly linked with Real Madrid, whose scouts (Miguel Angel Portugal and Julen Lopetegui) have been very impressed by his technical abilities.
Coutinho is an attacking midfielder who scored 3 goals in 4 matches for Brazil’s U15s at this years South American U15 Championships. Reports suggest that he will sign for Real Madrid when he turns 16. Real are the favourites, but Barcelona, Valencia, Athletico Madrid and Villareal have all stated their interest in the teenager.
Inter have done well to capture his signature. I think we'll hear a lot about him in a few seasons.

I guess the first real test of the pre-season will come in the Torfeo TIM on 29Jul against Milan and Juve... these traditional "friendlies" are anything but................

Very much so. Short and stocky strong in the tackle and could way in with a few from distance. Will definitely be a big miss for Pompey.

I didn't see him much at Pompey last season, but I saw a lot of him before that during his zebrete days... another player who can have some great games and some really poor ones... his expected arrival does not excite anyone at Inter, but I guess we need some more bench in that area if Mourinho starts playing 3 CMs.Ray Parlour wrote:Calidad wrote:Presumably the Lampard & Hamsik moves aren't going to happen then

We currently have Cambiasso, Dacourt, Vieira, Pele, & Bolzoni for the two defensive minded slots... Dacourt and Vieira are getting on with the years, and Pele and Bolzoni are not ready yet.... so Muntari will be a "nice to have" option to cover for injuries... specially considering that we had Vieira and Dacourt out for most of last season, and even Cambiasso had injury downtime.

Meaningless friendly, just match practise.... but winning is a habit, and Mourinho has a tough task to match his predecessor in game-win ratios...
Inter Kick Off With A Win
Internazionale 1-0 Al-Hilal
José Mourinho's first game in charge of Inter ended in victory as the nerazzurri did enough to manage a single goal victory over Al-Hilal in Bruneck... New coach Mourinho opted to field two vastly different sides in each half, although neither of his selections was to be troubled too much by the Riyadh side.
After a slow start from the hosts the Arabs actually managed the first shot as Salman tested Julio Cesar.
But Inter began to wake up: Santon had a fine chance 15 minutes in, and Adriano was inches away from scoring eight minutes later after a cross from Figo.
Figo and Adriano were building up quite an understanding, but in fact it fell to Balotelli and Burdisso to carve out the opener. The former crossed for the latter at the far post to power an accurate header past Alotaibi.
The team changed at half-time but the nerazzurri's attacking play continued, only for Crespo's header on the hour mark to be ruled out for offside.
Mancini was to enjoy an effective debut, although there were to be no more goals.
Internazionale 1-0 Al-Hilal
1-0 Burdisso 45'
INTER
First half : Julio Cesar; Santon, Burdisso, Pelè, Bolzoni; Cambiasso, Vieira, Zanetti; Figo, Adriano, Balotelli
Second half : Toldo; Maicon, Mei, Materazzi, Maxwell; Dacourt, Stankovic, Jimenez; Mancini, Cruz, Crespo.
AL-HILAL
Alotaibi (Shemary 64); Angrie, Airat, Mufaresh, Kataran (Kaltam 55); Saleh Dossari, Bargian (Altemyat 68); Salman, Tareq (Sultan Saud 55), Theyab (Lelo 76); Ambar.

Inter are often referred to as European giants, a description which Antonio Labbate feels is perhaps a little too grand for now
“European giants Inter…” You’ve all read it, some of you would have heard it and I’ve probably even typed it in the past. But how accurate is such a term when referring to Internazionale? There’s no real right or wrong answer of course, given that we are dealing with personal definition here, but it’s a question that does highlight how little the Nerazzurri have done in the Champions League over the years.
While fans and officials from the San Siro outfit will proudly and rightly point to the two European Cups which they lifted successively in 1964 and ’65, the Coppa Campioni has since become something of a taboo for Inter. Although they are now regular participants in the competition, their semi-final tie against city rivals Milan in 2003 was their first appearance in the last four since defeat to Real Madrid 22 years earlier.
That’s not exactly a record to be proud of. Granted, they have actually won the trophy, but that double triumph alone shouldn’t guarantee giant status. After all, you don’t exactly see Nottingham Forest – champions in 1979 and ’80 – hailed in such terms. Okay, that’s an unfair comparison given their domestic slump since relegation under Cloughie, but the likes of Aston Villa, Porto, Borussia Dortmund and Hamburg have all been more recent winners than Inter.
The expansion of the Champions League should, in theory at least, have helped Inter to live up to their supposed international pedigree, but it hasn’t. If anything it has weakened their standing. With the Scudetto no longer needed as a passport to Europe’s top prize, the UEFA Cup specialists [Inter won it three times in the 1990s] would have been expected to make a number of serious assaults funded by Massimo Moratti’s millions.
It’s never really happened. Putting 2003 to one side – as they ludicrously lost to Milan on the away goals rule in a stadium they share – Inter have been one of the tournament’s serial under-achievers as the recent painful defeats to Villarreal, Valencia and Liverpool help to illustrate. Perhaps then it’s not surprising that they opted to replace Roberto Mancini this summer with Jose Mourinho, a man whose recent history in the competition is more impressive than that of his employers.
So are Inter European giants? It’ll probably be more precise to call them sleeping giants for now. But as they re-emerged on the Serie A scene with a hat-trick of Scudetti following a 17-year title drought – they are undoubtedly Italian giants today – this may just be the year that they wake on the continent too.

The majority of those south american teenagers that join big european clubs can't live up to expectations. In the early 00's Inter signed a 15 yo brazilian kid that never played a match as a pro. The truth is that we can't say if Coutinho is worth 10m. Time will tell.

Forza, I actually agree with this article. In the current context, Inter are hardly European giants - no where near that, I am afraid. Sleeping giants is much more apt.

Thats the best piece of news I have heard all summer!!! Stankovic is in Mourinho's plans! I have a feeling this will be Stank's season, for the first time at Inter he will be played in his favourite position as a AM (and not a winger), and we all know how devastating he can be in that role!!Mourinho: "If for example a newspaper talks about a swap deal involving Tiago and Stankovic, Dejan can stay calm because I have spoken with him and I have told him that he will stay."
"Juve can think what they want, but me and him have made things clear. We have spoken and we have no doubts. You can read about Stankovic in the newspapers every day, but we're not interested. I like Stankovic, his game, his personality, and I think Dejan is happy to work with me. Many think that a central midfielder should be defensive, but I think he should have vision, technique and not just when defending. If there's Cambiasso, that's his position, but Stankovic can play in that role as well and he can also be used in other midfield positions."

I think the players are not yet adapted to Mourinho's tactics in the final third... Also I think Mourinho is making a mistake playing Muntari as an AM, instead he should try Stankovic in that role.... Stank and Jimenez are the only ones in our squad who can do that position justice... agree with Bergomi's comments earlier this week, we need someone like Diego to make this tactic work... we are still much better suited to Mancio's 4-4-2.S4P wrote:What did you think of yesterday's game bluey? Can't wait for some of our CBs to get fit.... I guess the team will start playing more freely when they have the confidence of real defenders in the CB positions.... its early days yet, the progress is slow but I am sure we will start getting there as more and more players get fit... it was great to see Ibra back finally, even if for just 10 minutes... he is expected to play a whole half tonight, lets see how that goes...
We have been playing top teams this pre-season without CBs, and all these teams are much more advanced in their pre-season.... so the results are more than satisfactory.

Rivas is now fit, so we have 2 fit CBs.... I guess we do not need any purchases this summer.
Its been a satisfactory pre-season so far... the team is clearly not in top form, far from it, but it is getting decent results... We have beaten Bayern and Ajax away from home, and drawn with Sevilla - not conceeding a single goal. That is encouraging.
Mourinho's tactics in the final third are yet to start working.... but Adriano is starting to look sharp, and Ibra just made his comeback... I guess Mourinho is adapting his 4-3-3 to include 2 strikers and a winger - thats what will suit the resources we have...
Also encouraging is teh fact that Balotelli is adapting well as a winger. If Suazo can make that shift too (and he has the skills to), we will be all set.
The interesting thing about Mourinho's pre-season schedule is that we are playing clubs from different countries away from home as much as possible... this will be good practice for the CL games.... now we take on Benfica in portugal, before playing Roma in the supercup. The supercup will show whether Inter have made teh required progress or not... can't wait!!!

Adri in injury scare Wednesday 13 August, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adriano’s positive pre-season could be in tatters after the Inter hitman suffered a potentially serious thigh injury.
The Brazilian striker has been enjoying a renaissance under Jose Mourinho after spending the end of last season on loan at Sao Paulo.
L’Imperatore was excellent against Bayern Munich and scored the winning goal in a 1-0 triumph over Ajax last Saturday.
But the euphoria of the last few weeks seems to have evaporated as Adri reported an acute pain in his thigh at the end of training today.
The 26-year-old is waiting for tests from doctor Franco Combi later today to ascertain the extent of the strain, but there are fears it could be serious.
At best Adriano may be facing a 10-day break, but reports suggest that early indications are not good and the period on the sidelines could be much longer.
The ex-Parma man’s last official game in an Inter shirt was last October when he scored the decisive goal against Reggina.

Rumours insist that Inter are planing to make a serious bid for the argie talent, Diego "Goodnight"... This sounds good to me, loved his goal in the olympics, and we need an AM. He will probably warm the bench most of the time, but it will be a nice tactical option available for Mourinho. And this will be a great buy for the future.

Recoba finds a new club to join up with Choutos,
An amazing footballer when he was on form, one of my favorites despite his fragile mentality and frustrating inconsitency, but one of the most talented footballers i have ever seen,

it's fitting they leave his goal against Sampdoria in that incredible match to last in this video.
Sadly, a waste of a career that seemed to hold so much potential when he oversahdowed Ronaldo's debut against Brescia with two amazing goals and then scored from halfway against Empoli the week later!

Ciao Ciao El Chino, you will always be remembered!
One of the most gifted football players I have ever seen, and the greatest enigma in football. He has made some of the best Inter moments of my life, and some of the most frustating.
While he may be more remembered for being the highest paid player of the last century, or for being the biggest waste of footballing talent, for me, I will always remember him for the joyous look on his face after those debut goals against Brescia.

it's fitting they leave his goal against Sampdoria in that incredible match to last in this video.
