The way the game was going, I wasn't at all surprised to see Nani come in and not Quaresma. I had already commented actually that he should be coming in, and Scolari brought him on a little later than I would have.

Quaresma has such a level of fantasy to him, the most in the squad, but he holds the ball far more than Nani and the game needed to be sped up. Quaresma is good over the course of a match, but I think bringing him in at that time might have been like brining on a 2nd Ronaldo today... I don't think it would've added the touch of speed and decisiveness we needed at the time.

Quaresma to start over Simao however should be seriously considered. I think Quaresma would've done much more in this match than Simao, who didn't exactly play that poorely himself.

Yea, I guess those are sensible reasons for his exclusion tonight

I just hope we see him next game

Personally I'd start him next match ahead of Simao. It's time.

Good match by Portugal and a very good way to start the cup. played well without really showing everything. I was a bit unsure about Portugal because they had bad form going into to this but at the same time that makes them dangerous.Moutinho is very important in the tactic they play because he makes the runs needed so he will have to keep that part up. for me Deco,Moutinho and Pepe were Motm with Moutinho edgeing it. Portugal are very fortunate to have a defence where Cbs can really play along with Carvalho and Pepe. I have never really thought that Simao is on the level of a great team which is why Quaresma should play that place.

Looking forward to Germany-Poland tomorrow it should be intense.

    Laugh

That's actually a real concern. They probably are not ruthless enough! When we played Poland in the group stages of WC 2006, they wasted like 20 chances against them! Only Neuville scored the winning goal in injury time!

Poldi and Klose are 'Schlesier'. Don't make me explain that to you though, because I would have to mention the War.

We fucking have to play France and Italy......in the group already !!!

I'd take Portugal over any of those Ale

Portugal is on par with Romania, who we also meet in the group FFS !

If we get out of the group we'll meet Spain/Russia and the World Champion again.

You're damned right your half of the draw is easier, even a blind man could see that !
Portugal is so weak the Dutch decided to assign a player to injure Ronaldo last time they meet , talking about playing the Dutch way ,maybe that is the Dutch way.

Some nice stuff by the Portuguese. I agree that Portugal's downfall yet again may be not to have a top striker, but to be fair to Gomes he did hit the post twice. Let's see how he does against the big teams.

Pepe is a fucking legend. What have I been telling people here for the past 8 months?!!! The guy is a rock in defense and the way his technique when he's on the ball is unbelievable. Nevermind the goal, before that he had already put two amazing passes to Ronaldo from deep into Portugal's half. Pepe looks good enough to be able to play in any position in the field.

What the f@ck does Scolari have against Quaresma though? Quaresma had an excellent season with Porto while Simao was average in Atletico and no surprise he had an awful game. And to even put Nani ahead of Quaresma was a big insult.

Have Quaresma and Scolari gotten into some kind of dispute? I really find this very strange.

I actually agree with Scolari. I don't think Quaresma and Ronaldo work in the same team. They are both prone to individualism and neither tracks back. A team can cope with a limp defensive wing but not two. Simao works more for the team and his season with Atletico was far from bad. He was plagued by injuries but when he did play formed an excellent partnership with El Kun and Forlan and ended the season with a decent amount of assists.

I'm guessing nothing Portuguese fans didn't already know? scratch

Nani was the right choice for that moment in the match.
I'd play Quaresma from the start, but I'd still have brought in Nani over Quaresma at that moment yesterday.
