WC 2010 Qualifiers in the rest of the world Empty WC 2010 Qualifiers in the rest of the world

Post by fcb Sun Jun 15, 2008 1:23 pm

Apart from the Euros, there have been some WC qualifiers going on in all the other federations. There's obviously not much info about it all on the usual football news sites, but I saw some interesting stories so thought I'd post it here:

    - Asia has a 3-phase qualifying process. The 2nd of these is about to end, and surprisingly, China has been knocked out already, that too by Iraq (who are the defending Asian champs, so their current team is pretty good despite all the domestic problems). Guess a country of 1 billion still cannot produce a good enough football team.

So far, the 8 teams that have made it through to the next phase (which I think has 2 groups of 5) are Uzbekistan (would like to see these guys qualify, I've watched a couple of their games and their strength and size would give any European team major problems), Saudi Arabia, Australia, Bahrain, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, and Iran. Iraq need a point from their last game against Qatar, and the UAE also need a draw against Syria in their last match.

    - In South America, Colombia managed to hang on for a 1-1 draw in Peru, while Venezuela also got a point against Uruguay. The big match there is Brazil-Argentina on Wednesday.

    - African teams had an odd day, with a lot of the big nations suffering surprise defeats or being held to draws by weaker teams. Egypt lost to Malawi, Ghana to Gabon...while Cameroon drew 0-0 with Tanzania and Ivory Coast drew 1-1 with Botswana Laughing
    http://fifa.com/worldcup/news/newsid=802607.html#tough+africas+guns

    - And there were also some pointless games among minnows in CONCACAF. The US and Mexico will stroll through as always.

I would love it if Venezuela qualified...only South American team to never play at the world cup! currently 5th on 7 points.

No European team has ever won the WC outside Europe so dont count on it. I was hoping Eritea would perhaps make a suprise qualification at least for Nations cup but now they have pulled out because of internal problems in the federation. Evil or Very Mad Like all other african countries doesnt have that.
Either way i hope we can finally get a winner from Africa. Nigeria have alot of talent coming through but they have to manage it which is where the problem is at the moment. South Africa will have to pull together and i think they will. of course Ivory Coast will do something but they will likely be without Drogba at least in top form. however Kalou should be top class by then.

Kaka is recovering from an injury, but I still think Dunga was mad at him for having his knee surgery right now, before those games.

The almighty Duck is on the bench, I mean God knows that in a team full of talent like Mineiro, Josue and Luis Fabiano there was no place for him Rolling Eyes

Ohh, and Adriano is also in the bench, God Dunga is so awesome.
