- Asia has a 3-phase qualifying process. The 2nd of these is about to end, and surprisingly, China has been knocked out already, that too by Iraq (who are the defending Asian champs, so their current team is pretty good despite all the domestic problems). Guess a country of 1 billion still cannot produce a good enough football team.
So far, the 8 teams that have made it through to the next phase (which I think has 2 groups of 5) are Uzbekistan (would like to see these guys qualify, I've watched a couple of their games and their strength and size would give any European team major problems), Saudi Arabia, Australia, Bahrain, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, and Iran. Iraq need a point from their last game against Qatar, and the UAE also need a draw against Syria in their last match.
- In South America, Colombia managed to hang on for a 1-1 draw in Peru, while Venezuela also got a point against Uruguay. The big match there is Brazil-Argentina on Wednesday.
- African teams had an odd day, with a lot of the big nations suffering surprise defeats or being held to draws by weaker teams. Egypt lost to Malawi, Ghana to Gabon...while Cameroon drew 0-0 with Tanzania and Ivory Coast drew 1-1 with Botswana

- And there were also some pointless games among minnows in CONCACAF. The US and Mexico will stroll through as always.
