So..... France are through!
are these the same stars that domenech is using, hasn't really worked out so far for him has it?
You see? It was writen in the stars....
The answer on your question is. Domenech is from another planet, we all know that. That's the reason he looks at stars from a different angle

the italians to claim a conspiracy against them (like there is every time they don't win
I see a slight chance for italy based mainly on them having a decent keeper while the french don't, and if they play cassano more than the last 15 mins. Toni has been pants for me and I'd even drop him if I was in charge (of course he'll now go and score a hat-trick
whoever does go through will most likely lose to spain anyway
I guess I was wrong about the hat-trick
Italy have so far scored a header from panucci and a penalty from pirlo. I expect them to actually play better without having to accomodate for pirlo, but they still have toni in attack.
Spain on the other hand have scored a few goals and I wouldn't call sweden weak in defence or organisation, nor russia.

Sweden showed that the best way to defend against Spain is to let them have the ball in midfield and cut off supply along the ground to the strikers.
I am sure that Italy can do this very well; the question is how you then get a goal. Having Pirlo would have given you a bit more set-piece threat at least.
If Spain score first I think they'll win, if Italy can score first then I can see them preventing Spain from equalising.
It will be an interesting match of styles but I suspect most neutrals will be supporting Spain...

You are totally wrong re Pirlo. He is the key player for Italy, and barring Buffon, he has been their best player so far as well. Italy are going to miss Pirlo big time.
What wins games at this stage now, is a winning mentality and attitude - more than form or even talent. If Italy play the game against Spain with the same attitude that they had against France and Romania, I don't see the Spanish winning this one... perhaps with penalties. Coz the Italians can demonstrate that mentality much better on the field than the Spanish, and it does not matter whether Toni continues to misfire or not - they will do just enough.
Spain's best bet lies in rattling the Italian in the begining, specially if they take an early lead and make the Italians chase the game, hitting them on pacy counters.
In either case, I expect a close game. This one will be interesting.

Re: Italy v France who will progress
Of course I forgot about the henry goal given to de rossi. I mean that not having to have 2 minders for pirlo and a creative player further up the pitch, and just letting de rossi do his stuff would be better for Italy. They could even have 2 strikers, instead having cassano hugging the left wing.
In truth having a man sent off was the best thing that happened to Italy, not the way any particular player played. Pirlo is a great passer, just limited in all other aspects that a midfielder needs. It's no real surprise that with more time and space he was able to find nice passes. Even so I thought de rossi and cassano made just as good passes but I only see hype for pirlo.
The best player on the pitch was benzema unfortunately he had to do too much by himself, often too far from the goal. he went past people, brought others into play, had a couple of decent shots etc.

Re: Italy v France who will progress
There has been a lot of discussions among Italians in the last year or so as to who is better as a footballer, De Rossi or Pirlo (even tho they are different type of midfielders). Its a divided opinion, but the overall consensus is De Rossi > Pirlo
And my opinion is no different.
However, for the Azzurri, Pirlo is slightly more important than De Rossi.
