klose is cleary ahead of villa/torres

he scored 2 important goals in the knock out stages and is more gifted with the ball, better header too

nope...theres one big difference...what i write is not biased...its the truth...who on earth would pick any german over a spanish player after that game?...which german was/is better?

this isnt just about germany...i wouldnt pick players from most other countries over the spanish players at the moment...but..in this thread..we are talking about a combined german/spanish team..and nothing else...

i ain't too sure about that trees, i don't think the spanish defence is all that, BUT amazingly the germans were worse. in many ways whilst i can appreciate good defensive football, its great that 2 teams who didn't have great defences got to the final, and hence attacking football was the winner. at least the germans didn't do an italy, it's just ultimately the flaws in their squad were exposed. imho they do have 5 good players (at least 2 of who had poor tournies by their standards) but some of the others were distinctly average and hence whilst they played as a team you simply can't overcome good sides all the time with good teamwork and good organisation, ultimately you need quality in most positions to break other teams down, something they lacked.

the german defence was terrible the entire tournament..the spanish midfield ist just so good no german would get in..and klose has been awful..

i honestly cant imagine anyone would seriously pick any german over a spanish player after this tournament..

Surprised so many people (across various newspapers and websites) are putting Iniesta in their teams. He didn't have a particularly good tournament...can certainly play much better.

Lahm, not for me either. He´s too attack minded and caused too many costly mistakes.
I don´t know if full back is the best position for him. He could be a very dangerous winger instead.

People say that and in the same breath criticise Anne Friedrich for being too boring and not attack-minded enough.

What they then forget is that while yes, Lahm showed some pretty surprising defensive weaknesses at the tournament, he also had Poldi in front of him for a couple of games, who simply isn't used to tracking back and covering the player behind him so that Lahm faced two players at once a few times.

That said, I wouldn't have him (Little Philipp) in my XI of the tournament either.

    Torres and Iniesta is ridiculous.

I actually thought Lahm was very solid until the last two games. People are too quick to judge players on one or two games. The same was true with Ramos at the start of the tournament "Ramos is crap", "Ramos is overrated", then after a couple of good games the same people go to the other end of the spectrum.

    BBC's team

    -----------------Buffon
    Ramos--Marchena--Chiellini--Gio
    Iniesta--Senna--Snejider--Turan
    ---------Villa----Arshavin

    Subs:

    Casillas, Volkan
    Pepe, Lahm, Capdevilla
    Sionko, Rakitic, Frings, Ballack
    RVN, Pavlyuchenko, Nihat

    Some odd picks there

bizarre that they mention Frings & Ballack but not Schweini and Podolski.

Xavi, Zhirkov are two other pretty blatant omissions.

also surprising -given the amount of British TV Pundit semen he's been coated in all tournament - that Torres doesn't get in either.

Yes definitely. According to the article they done a sweep of everyone in the BBC Sport's office, so some of the inclusions (and ommissions) are surprising. I'm not necessarily sure Xavi has to be in the team though, Snejider played just as well if not better. Maybe they could have changed the formation and dropped Iniesta to stick Xavi in.

It's amazing how many news/sports outlets have selected Iniesta. Even look at the comment in that article alot of people seem to have selected him. Iniesta was ok in these Euros but he played as bad as I've ever seen him play to be honest. I guess it shows his class that many seem to think of him as one of the better performers, though for me, there were better performances in this tournament from other players.

I also agree that Zhirkov should be in the side, and I'd take Anyukov over Ramos too

Deco, Pirlo & Chivu may have deserved shouts in midfield too
