Queiroz gets Portugal coach post | |
Manchester United assistant boss Carlos Queiroz has been appointed as the new coach of Portugal. The 55-year-old, who had a spell in charge of Portugal in the 1990s, has signed a four-year contract. The deal with Portugal's Football Federation is believed to be worth around £1.5m. Queiroz has also previously managed Real Madrid, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates as well as Portugal's Under-20 side. He has had two spells with United, first coming to Old Trafford in the summer of 2002. He then spent one year in charge of Madrid before rejoining United on a one-year rolling contract in 2004. The loss of Queiroz could also further unsettle winger Cristiano Ronaldo, who has a close relationship with his compatriot. Ronaldo's future remains uncertain as Real Madrid continue to make it known they want to sign him. |

comments every fucking where.
Sorry..
I think he'll be do alright to be honest..its a big leap from assistant a club side to managing a national team though so it might take him time to get things right.

Shouldn't be too much of a 'leap'.
After all at MU he deals with the tactics and Fergie does the man management.
He obviously knows his Portuguese football and is responsible for the influx of portuguese/Brazilian players.

didn't he fail to qualify for WC 94 the last time he was in charge of Portugal?

If that is true, what sort of team did he have? also that was almost 15 years ago, i don't think anybody would reasonably argue he was a better manager then than he is now...

He's definitely learnt a lot, but managing at the club level is different from international level. He had a rather transitional side. Players like Rui Costa and Figo and the others from the so called "Golden Generation" were still young, while players like Futre were getting old. They were in our qualification group and we beat them both times, but i guess they were a bit unlucky that Switzerland took 4 points off us when IMO they didn't deserve that.

Since when?
Anyway good luck to the man, obviously too good a job for him to give up.
Think this may rule him out of being the next Man United manager though. If after two years he is doing well, he'll probably stay on. If he does poorly we'd probably look elsewhere as well because that'd be two big jobs he'd of f*cked up!

Considering how MU fan gave him a bollocking for tinkering with the tactics such as 451 and 433, i would assume.

Remember the criticism/blame Queiroz got in the past whenever we lined-up as 4-5-1/4-3-3 and did not win the game?

Re: Portugal hire CQ
Queiroz was the Portuguese coach when Portugal become Under 21 WC winner's in Riadh and Lisbon in 89 and 91
He actually kick started the basis for all the youth teams in Portuguese football
The dismiss of Portugal of WC94 was part is responsibility, but most of the blame lay with the Portuguese FA/ He actually left stating "until you clean out this Cr@p, I'm not staying" (loose translation, can't remember is exact words now)
Let's see how he fares this time around

It's well known CQ was mainly behind the tactics, not saying Fergus didn't have a say, he obviously had the final say.

It's not ironic at all. Fergie has proved he can work with other coaches and still be successful.
Rafa hasn't.

Re: Portugal hire CQ
He's called coach for a reason ffs
Whats with MU fans and denial?
Just incase your not sure what a coach does:
Coaching entails the application of sport tactics and strategies during the game or contest itself, and usually entails substitution of players and other such actions as needed. Most coaches are former participants in the sports in which they are involved, and those who are not have usually had extensive training in the sport in question.

You implied he dealt with all tactics you complete moron.
Now you come up with that genius line -
'not saying Fergus didn't have a say, he obviously had the final say.'

I Guess laser eye surgery isn't all it's cracked up be, 'cos your still blind as a bat.
I said he deals with the tactics, and is mainly involved in them, rather than man managment etc, try reading before you post

I was implying he's involved in the tactics, not other areas, tactics were delegated to CQ. Ofcourse Fergus has the final say, he is the manager after all

This is FACT and if you don't agree you are in DENIAL.
