Not a bad line-up from his squad against Andorra....Smile I have not watched Bullard much so swop him for either central player if he has played that well.... Rooney on the left and JC on the right both are great at getting forward and playing the outside midfield role. Little and large up front......DONE!!!

boro it has to happen. As much as Capello may not be a Joe Cole lover. Joe plays for his club on the right and covers that flank better than Beckham. Rooney fits on the left covers like a monster.

Calidad, Ashley Young should be on the left 100% seems Capello does not like young player blood.

3-5-2 all the way!! the master plan is to big for any coach in the land to handle effectively. Bunch of boners...Smile

Really happy to see Bullard in the squad, about six years ago he was in the fourth tier of English football with Peterborough United.

Thats it for Owen IMO, he has become the first casualty of the Capello era. It's a shame as at one stage he looked like he would easily surpass Sir Bobby Charlton's record.

Agreed with what everyone is saying about Ashley Young as well.

In the text book 3-5-2 uses two wingbacks this is why coaches have problems using it. Using 3 CM's or 3 DM's and two wingers would lock the door on most teams, and threaten many in the last third..... Smile

Owen, Is a special case, Smile glad he was left out also for now. We cannot set up a side anymore for him unless he is scoring 95% of his chances imo. If Beckham gets in over Joe Cole then we are not moving forward.

True then the balance gets screwed up and to get the best out of him you need a player like Beckham in there for perfect crosses..... Sounds like falling into quicksand all over again..... cheers

Agree re Owen but I still think Beckham can do a job for England. The pair have been arguably England's best 2 players over the past 10 years and although neither may be starter, they offer considerable quality which if used correctly could be more effective than raw flavour of the month athletes.

I think Capello is not calling up Young because:

    1. He thinks Young is too direct and won't fit into the style of slow passing, control the game's tempo, football that he is trying to implement.

    2. As someone said earlier, Capello prefers older more experienced players.

I'm not surprised Capello did not call up Owen. I watched Capello's disgusted reaction when Owen missed that sitter against Arsenal. The little fellow may miss three clear cut chances for Newcastle, get to score one poacher goal late in the game and still make the back pages in the sports section. Capello just can't afford such a wasteful "striker" who made a living out of scoring that one goal against Argentina in WC 1998. That's it! A whole career out of ONE FRIGGING GOAL and he wants more money out of Newcastle even though he only played 10 games in three seasons! lol!

Also not surprised Capello called up Bullard. He's the best midfielder for England right now (Yo LRD! you know Scholes' my man, but he's past it bro!), and he can thread the needle for England. Bullard can play, EASILY England's best midfielder right now, bar none. Good call by Capello! <Ale>

Capello will do a good job with the talentless hoofers. He's won EVERYWHERE! he's got to win something with these "seven or eight world class players plus Rooney" you'd think! Biggrin <Ale>

It's not quite possession football, because essentially Capello's teams don't like the ball. But he's trying to get them to value the ball and control it when they do have it, something which he's really struggling with. Maybe it'll be better with Gerrard injured, because he is a real headless chicken style player (using it just to describe, not criticise), favouring medium/long range passes all the time.

Bullard's a good call. Nice to see someone get a chance despite being relatively old (to be getting in for the first time), unhyped and playing for unfashionable teams. He's a talented player, who's worked his way up the leagues, which is pretty unusual these days.

Shame Hart's been ousted, but I suppose he's better off playing for the U21s than being 3rd choice for the main team.

Can't understand what Walcott's done to deserve his place...seems bizarre he drops Owen, but keeps Beckham (who's his equivalent in terms of living on past reputation) and has Walcott in there as a striker, when he:

    a) rarely starts for Arsenal
    b) tends to play on the wing when he does
    c) doesn't do much on the occasions he does start on the wing

Owen would be better as a striker than Theo. Agbonlahor should be ahead of Theo based on experience and performaces this season (even if he's been poor outside of the opening day, at least he's played). or Bent could be in there. Just seems an odd, unjustified choice.

    Yikes

Didn't even notice his name in there. Maybe someone from Southampton knows someone in the FA and they are pressuring every England manager to pick Walcott so Saints can pick up their bonus payments?

I don't get it, for me there are 5 players that are on the teamsheet before I even start to think about who I'd play :

James, Rio, Terry, Bentley & Agbonlahor

The rest are there to make up the numbers (and I think SWP would be one of them).
