Did Chelsea really make a profit on transfers last year?

Yeah.
Our purchases were Malouda (£15m) + Belletti (£4m) and we sold Robben (£28m). I think this was pretty much it... got Sidwell, Pizarro and Ben Haim on frees and Alex for £1, if I remember correctly.

Unbelievable, how and why did you sign Robinho for 42m euros
Mark Hughes, Premiership, I can see this ending in tears. At least he has Jo and Elano with him. Where will he even play in your standard 4-4-2 or 4-5-1?

Reports are that they have paid 210m pounds for Man. City. Not sure how they will handle the debts. Interestingly, Thaksin has so far apparently made 50m from the 1 year he's been there!

Still don't think they should drop Ireland, but the pressure will be to play the big money signings like SWP, Robinho and Elano. He'll be great cover for any of them though.

It looks good attacking, but Johnson is the only one who'd do anything defensively, so I think they would get out-battled in midfield against some teams. I guess it'll be Kompany and Johnson + 4/5 of the others.
Whatever, I'm kinda glad we've played and beat City already...there'll be a buzz about the place with Robinho, even if he takes a while to settle.

I think they'll need a proper defensive midfielder like Kompany or Hamaan.
---- Kompany/Hamaan --- Johnson/Hamaan
SWP/Ireland -- Elano/Robinho -- Robinho/Petrov
-------------------------- Jo
The only problem is, who covers Jo?

So how do you rate City current defensive options? Good enough to challenge for the top 4?
Think their defence (includes DMF) is not as good as their attack. Don't get the Corluka sale either.

Richard is.
I've said in another thread that I think its the next area that needs improving though.
They need right and left backs and maybe a top class defender - someone that can nurture Richards.

Spanish media are reporting this via the Russian media
Abramovich puts Chelsea for sale?
Lampard saddened about having to pay for his next pie.
Seriously affected by the world financial crisis, Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich is thinking of selling either Chelsea or his luxury yacht "Pelorus".
Assets depreciation and another effects of the world financial crisis might have reduced Roman Abramovich's personal fortune from €16,700 million to €2,300 million, according to Russian news agency Prime-Tass.
This is the current scenario for the Russian tycoon, who must made a decision: either he puts Chelsea for sale (he invested more than €210 million since July 2003, including the team's debts) or he sells his yacht, which is said to cost some €200 million.
The press published statements from an expert in financial transactions in soccer and former manager of two teams from Germany; according to him, "rumors about selling Chelsea started spreading in November" and Abramovich "is looking for a broker to lead the transaction."
Meanwhile, cuts in budget are already in force at Chelsea: 15 managers were fired (they earned €156,000 total per year)and no more free meals for the players at the cafeteria, according to Russian TV channel "Vesti-24".
