I have to admit that Smolarek was really, really good yesterday. He was dangerous offensively and was surprisengly good tracking back, with right slovakian defender being very offensive minded.

Ebi should be scoring much more goals then he has done so far, but he kinda lacks the killing instinct. He is more of winger anyway! Poland is lacking good strikers, no surprise since they play for Germany. Luckily Janota is coming for Leo's boys! Though I hope we can make him Dutch!

Things are heating up for Albania. Almedia just hit the inside of the post. Portugals fans are also getting mad. good combinations but they cant quite deliver the final ball. Ronaldo a good player but not such a good captain. he constantly whines at others and has a bad attitude.Carvalho should have gotten it.

    Laugh

What was Quieroz thinking to make Ronaldo captain? Any idiot knows that he's not captain material. Can inspire with his football, but hardly a calm leader of men (unless we're talking about guiding Nani and Anderson about how to find prostitutes in Manchester).

In fact, didn't Scolari give him the armband too sometimes? Doh

Scolari gave him the armband as a premium for is good work
But only when N Gomes,Simao or any other older player was not on the team
Yesterday was the proof in the pudding that the Portuguese FA is more worried in good press than in qualifying Portugal for WC2010
Not to mention that we had 3 circus clowns on the team at one stage (Ronaldo,Quaresma,Nani) that between the 3 of them can not conjure a center to a forward (WTF is H Almeida doing in that team is beyond me) or score an open goal (Nani already missed 2 siters on the qualification)
I did not see the Sweden Game, but the comments back home was that if we had a bit more ambition on the 2ns half we may have nicked it
But against Albania, at home, starting with 4 defenders, and 3 similar midfielder's, is ridiculous
I did say last year on this board, that when Portuguese people seat down to watch WC10 at home, and Portugal is not there, we can discuss Scolari methods and achievements.
Looks like we are almost there....
Thankfully we should have R Carvalho, Simao , Deco and Bosingwa back on the next game

Neson had a storming 1st season with Benfica when he came from Boavista. Had great potential, lots of pace and trickery, good crosser of the ball (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XTm1QfOLEPA)
Unfortunately, he is prone to brain farts, and goes on mazy runs forward, and completely forgets to defend
Last 2 seasons at Benfica where not brilliant. Was injured for most of one season, and last one he was just inconsequent
But he is a young kid, and the right coach can improve is defensive awareness

Thanks, I'm impressed by him than Boswinga. Admittedly both the players need defensive lessons.

It'd be easy to diminish Ribery, Vieira, Zizou, and Henry contribution. You could easily take out Malouda , Wiltord , but not the aforementioned's contribution in Les blues attack!

Take out Henry and put in Trezeguet, and you would have probably had a better side. Though to be fair, i doubt Trezeguet would've managed to match Henry's amazing dive against Portugal and his world class playacting against Spain.

He did make most of it, but I think both incidents were fouls. Or, maybe I'm a Blues fan, and I'm biased. Nevermind. Trezegeut was less impressive than Henry for the NT. They tried 4-4-2, but Trez's poaching type didn't really suit others like Zizou and Ribery, who both preferred a link-up striker and get back the ball to shoot. so they prefer Teary to Trez. As I said before, it'd be easy to undermine and undervalue the contributions, but for an inexistent strategy and tactic from clown Domenech, the French attack was about individuals trying to link up and get the goals. It's not like they were creating chances after chances, which would have benefited Trez greatly. And let's not forget Trez miss in the finals. Twisted Evil

I don't think either incidents were fouls, unless you think any bit of physical contact is a foul.

Trez has a better goals to games ratio for the NT. Henry's linkup play is overrated. Most of his short passes are inaccurate and often easy to read. When he doesn't see much of the ball he'll start sulking and won't work for the team. Trezeguet has done fine over the years linking up with Nedved and Del Piero and i'm sure he could've done the same with Zidane and Ribery. Trez was also more suited to the 4-2-3-1 since he could actually head the ball and is better at holding it up plus he would've been less likely to drift out wide, unlike Henry. It's easy to blame someone who misses the penalty, but then penalties are a bit of a lottery anyway. I would look at Henry's missed chances in the final instead.

I didnt expect him already for Poland Shocked But Beenhakker knows what is good! That's the difference between Holland and Germany, we give you strikers and they take them!!

Unbelievable stuff. Honduras are beating México, and if Jamaica get the right result against Canada, the Reggae Boys advance instead of the Aztecs with Honduras winning the group. Shocked

IF such remarkable scenario happens, Sven should not go back to México. IF the mexicans are eliminated this early, it would be such an embarrassment.

The "Reggae Boys" had to score 7 goals to advance (they scored 3), so Mexico were basically sure they would go though no matter what the result, but it is embarrassing losing to Jamaica and drawing away to Canada for a team i picked to make the semi's by 2014.

We need to win our 2 home ties v Scotland & Macedonia & Scotland dropping points v Iceland & we've won the group (we'll do anyway).

My attention this break will go a few top countries, who could be in serious trouble after this break, e.g. Portugal & France

Don't think so, I think the only reason you can is that your group is smaller than all the others. England and Spain are the others with 100% records, but can't qualify for a few games yet.
