Gimnasia de La Plata, River, Banfield y Vélez(who is going to play the previous rounds) and of course the mighty comeback of the one team that can bring back life to Copa Libertadores Boca.

how about the brazlian teams?I know that Flamengo is coming back because of Copa do Brasil but how about the rest of them?

Hey how's the Timao doing? I read there's some trouble going on between Kia and your clb's president...

all we know is that Flamengo and the Libertadores champions (Inter or São Paulo) will participate. the others will get their place in December.

Corinthians is currently the last of the Brasileirão. we need a great come back to get to Libertadores...

on Saturday, after 8 games without winning, I went to the stadium for the first time after the WC. it was beautiful. Tevez scored and the pacaembu was entirely full. we won.

Kia and Dualib (our president) are always arguing. Corinthians administration is so incompetent it makes me sick.

Well the argentine league is based on small tournaments(or leagues), as opposed to our neighbours where the Brasileirao is the longest league in the world.
Anually there are two local first division tournaments, the Clausura(started on the beggining of February and finished before the WC) and the Apertura(started last weekend), each is formed by 19 dates. Boca was the winner at both the Apertura 2005 and Clausura 2006(last 2 league titles), but when you read about "the argentine champion" it's just referring to the last tournament(Clausura or Apertura).
Though I agree with those who believe that long leagues are tougher to win and would preffer the old sistem(long leagues), this format was choosed by this MFApertura 2006 - Argentina Juliusir0, who happens to be vice president of FIFA and who only cares to give in in benefit of his pocket and the Blatter followers instead of football

Grondona is a close friend of brazilian FA president, Ricardo Teixeira. He is corrupt as well.

Well, It would not surprise me at all...football moves lots of money nowadays...what was the biggest setback to brazilian football in recent years in your opinion, the Pele law? at least that was not directly involved with the CBF...correct me if I'm wrong.

No, but Teixeira steals money from sponsorship deals and Friendlies. He only thinks about money when he arranges friendlies. Teixeira has a pact with the biggest brazilian media organisation. They don´t criticise him while he let them have exclusive interviews and all kinds of advantages.

Pele law didn´t help brazilian clubs finances for sure. European clubs can "steal" our players without paying anything. Mancini left my fav club for free. At 22 he had scored 15 goals in 30 matches playing as a right midfielder. He would cost at least 10 million euro. SA american clubs need money from transfers to avoid debts.

What happens in Argentina when contracts expire?

Grondona does the same thing...maybe they share ideas about how to screw football.

In Argentina young players can easily be taken away too, is crap really. At least Boca knows how to handle this and always makes good money out of players, good and bad(sometimes they are so crap and so overpricedd you woudln't believe it good for the club's finances)

    Old thread i know...but...

why are river fans beating each other up in their own stadium? i hear they have had some sort of terrace ban because of it.

another unrelated question, why in south america do a lot of the leagues (brazil apart) have apertura and closura (sp), instead of having a straight 38 game league.

a failed policy to try incorporate violent fans to the club and something else(it was a shitty argument anyway)...they obviously failed and are now the only club in first division with violence problems amongst their fans...leaders of different factions have even sent hit men to kill other leaders...big BIG problem

I believe the main argument for applying the clausura and apertura system is that small clubs(or big ones but that have fallen in disgrace) can't afford to maintain the same base of players for a whole year so by making the tournaments shorter they allow them to compete for the title with the bigger clubs as well as teams that don't actually sell players between tournaments but that may have a good run(in a longer league the smaller clubs would eventually loose form) , and this attracts fans to the smaller club's stadiums whereas if the tournament was long they would find their team at the bottom probably by midseason and the club's stadium would be less crowded(= less money form ticket sales)

I actually think that Brasil calendar should be spread in two moments, since our players are always sold in the middle of the tournament. It can f@ck up your entire title race.

We need the playoffs back. I miss them so much. The league was totally unpredictable. I don't care if the best team doesn't win the competition.
