Alberto Zaccheroni is the new Coach of Torino after Gianni De Biasi was sacked – just three days before the start of the season.
The Granata confirmed the coaching change this morning in an official statement which wasn’t a total shock to the Italian game.
The former Brescia boss did lead Toro to promotion via the play-offs this summer, but has endured a difficult pre-season and Coppa Italia failure.
Rumours of a split had been circulating since last Saturday when it was reported that there was a certain amount of unrest between De Biasi and chief Urbano Cairo.
It’s also understood that De Biasi wasn’t entirely happy with the club’s transfer market moves this summer, despite their heavy investment which saw the likes of Christian Abbiati, Simone Barone and Stefano Fiore arrive.
De Biasi, who was never a fan favourite, will now be replaced by the experienced 3-4-3 tactician Zaccheroni (pictured).
Zac will be officially presented to the media in Turin this afternoon after landing his first job since being sacked by Inter in 2004.
The Italian Coach, who won a Scudetto with Milan at the first attempt in 1999, has also bossed Lazio, Udinese, Cosenza and Vicenza.
He’ll make his debut on the Granata bench at the Stadio Olimpico against Parma on Sunday.
Bloody hell football (especially in Italy) is crazy at times. Its like last season when Genoa sacked their coach after thier first defeat of the season even though it came about 14 games in and they remained top of Serie B.
