Great to see that he has made a good start to his Corinthians career. Must be fantastic for the fans as well to have such a legend back home.

Ronaldo starts (5th appearance), plays the full 90, and scores 2 goals (first one was a pen):

4 goals in 5 games, 3 as a starter.
believe it or not, he's coming back running to tackle in the defence.
obviously, he can get injured again sooner or later. but he seems to be very happy to be in Brazil again, the fans love him, the players like and respect him a lot. maybe this psychological aspect may help him physically.
he said he won't come back to Europe and that he wants Corinthians to be his last club. he doesn't need more money, so he'll stay where he wants. his ex Milena is a fanatic Corintiana, and his children with her, who live in São Paulo, are Corinthians fans, naturally.
moreover, he's getting much more media coverage in Brazil now than when he played in Europe. 90% of Brazilian sports media space is for Brazilian football, and most Brazilian football fans don't follow European football closely, so if he wins a couple of titles for Corinthians, he may replace Romário as Brazilians' favourite player of the last 30 years.
for the first time since the last world cup, Brazilian media is raising the possibility of Ronaldo playing the next world cup . if he's 60% of the old Ronaldo and fit enough at the time of the wc, he'll be there again. I have no doubt about that.

Ronaldo scored two outstanding goals to give Corinthians a vital 3-1 win over rivals Santos at a packed Vila Belmiro stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Corinthians are on course to lift what would be a record 26th state championship after a comfortable victory against a difficult Santista side.
Ronaldo was in sensational form, scoring his first goal in the 25th minute with a well-placed, left-footed shot from the edge of the area.
He added his second in the 76th minute and in awesome fashion. After a swift breakaway, the 31-year-old controlled the ball with great class and beat Santos goalkeeper Fabio Costa with a sublime lobbed shot from outside of the area.
Not only did the former Barcelona, Inter, Real Madrid and Milan star have his scoring boots on, but he was very lively throughout the game and was a constant threat for the busy Santos defence.
Chicao had put Corinthians ahead in the 10th minute when he fired in a powerful free-kick, while Triguinho scored Santos' only goal of the match in the 60th minute.
Heading into the championship decider at the Pacaembu stadium next Sunday, Ronaldo is one of the main contenders to be named Player of the Tournament.
Still has that sublime touch!

he's got mad skills, but he looks really heavy. If he's scoring goals without having to run where's the incentive for him to get fit? He was clean through on goal but doubled back because he knew he wouldn't make it that far. Great finish though.

Ronaldo played 10 out of 14 Corinthians games since he came back, most of them as a starter, most of them till the end, and scored 8 goals.
For Milan, he never played more than 5 consecutive games and didn't play 1 single game till the end, getting minor injuries all the time.
Yesterday, on a sports TV show, some footballers and pundits were talking about Ronaldo. Among them, legends like Rivelino, Carlos Alberto Torres and Junior.
And then they talked about the differences between the physical training and recovery done in Brazil and in Europe. All of them said Brazilian doctors specialized in sports medicine and physical professionals were better than their euro counterparts since their time.
No wonder all injured Brazilians who play in Europe come to recover in Brazilian clubs, instead of doing their recovery in their clubs in Europe, and their Euro clubs always agree with this practice, cause they know the recovery done here is top class.
Tim Vickery has also pointed this out as one of the ignored reasons for Brazilian success in world cups since Mexico 1970, when Brazil was the first country to take a group of professionals specialized in physical training to the WC. Brazil had a great team full of craques, true, but their physical condition was excelent, probably the best in that WC.
Tomorrow, against Atlético PR for Copa do Brasil (our FA cup), Ronaldo may play his third game in 10 days. On Sunday he'll certainly play his 4th in 15 days, cause it will be the State Championship final. Next Wednesday, he may play his 5th in 20 days, and then the Brazilian league will begin 3 days afterwards, which means he may play his 6th in less than 25 days, probably all of them as a starter.
the question is: Will he break again?
Will his body work alright under such physical stress?
A top Brazilian team play more than 80 games a season, much more than in Europe, cause we have more championships and cups and our managers are corrupt fuckoes who only think about the money, as our Inca friend often points out.
Will he be able to deal with it?
No one thought he would be able to play world class football again for a long period. If he does it during the whole year without a major injury, he'll certainly play for Brazil in South Africa, in a better physical condition than he was in 2006.

I gues somehow we are just used to Europe having the best in anything really to believe that Brazil are better this area. I always wondered how Brazilians are able to play soo many games a year. Also why doesn't European clubs import more experts from Brazil since it seems like an obvious solution to the problem that some players have. Around 2002 everybody was taking about that players were worn out and that we needed to cut back on games.mongrel hawk wrote:Ronaldo played 10 out of 14 Corinthians games since he came back, most of them as a starter, most of them till the end, and scored 8 goals.

I understand you, cause it's difficult for me to accept this too. But I've been listening to this for a long time now from Brazilian pundits and players. I mentioned Vickery cause he's English.
When a top Brazilian player like Kaká or Ronaldinho have a light injury, they recover in Europe. When they have a more serious one, they come to Brazil, partly because they want to be with their families and friends, and partly because the recovery done here is top class, otherwise Euro clubs wouldn't let their most important players be submitted to operations and recovery programmes in a 3rd world country.
But it's not true that Euro clubs do not employ Brazilian professionals. Arsenals' Eduardo, who is Brazilian but plays for Croatia, was operated and treated by Brazilians in Brazil:
http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/72903,brazil-doctor-to-help-eduardo-recovery.aspx
Do you think Arsenal would let it happen if they weren't at least as good as English professionals?
as far as I know, his recovery was very well done.
and it's just one exemple of many.
Ronaldo is in a much better form than he ever was in Milan, playing more games, faster, etc. It didn't come out of nothing.
Of course, he has serious problems in both kness and any time he may have a serious injury again, but, up to now, Corinthians professionals are doing a much better job than Milan professionals.

No I mean actually buying these experts from Brazil to do the same thing in Europe. That would seem very logical don't you think?
I gues it is a case of nobody having tried it yet. If they truly are this much better this should be bound to happen in the near future.

I don't know. Maybe they do hire some of them and we're not aware of this.
I was having a look at the comments of Arsenal fans below the article I've posted a link to, and I found this comment:
"Seems a bit odd - a world-class player going to a 3rd world country for treatment and rehabilitation."
well, it really sounds strange, but, as I've said, Arsenal wouldn't let this happen if they weren't sure about the quality of the treatment done here.
and it's not only Eduardo, 90% of Brazilian top players come to Brazil to be submitted to serious surgeries and do their recovery in top Brazilian clubs, usually in São Paulo.

doing a quick search on google, I found this article about Alex recovery:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/6441661.stm
he came to Brazil cause in Europe the treatment would take longer.
"The defender will see a doctor from Brazil's football federation who claims he can cut his recovery to five weeks from an initial diagnosis of eight."
If PSV let one of their most important players be treated by a Brazilian doctor who says he could cut his recovery to 5 weeks, that's because they knew this doctor wasn't a crazy bastard trying to promote himself, but a good doctor who had a know-how they couldn't find in Holland.
