No but Given is better and more experianced and getting Given gives Hart competition. I feel a bit sorry for Hart cos he hasnt done anything wrong but its just like Van der Saar and Foster at the scum. £6m is a brilliant deal for a top class keeper and it will improve our team which is the main thing.

Didn't kinnear say the 5 million offer was laughable, how come he accepted 6 million? I was expecting 10 million or more.

COs Kinnear is loser and should have kept his mouth shut, Given handed in a transfer request and the window was closing, they had no option...great deal for us though.

How did we have no option? Anyway it is £6m rising to something like 8, because he failed his medical. Personally i would've rejected this, whether there was a transfer request or not.

Ok well you did have an option but it wouldnt be good to keep a player who is unhappy and wants to leave.

Didnt Man Utd sign VDS in 2005..and sign Foster in 2005?

So VDS was surely signed to be first choice and Foster was signed as a future prospect.

Whereas City have been playing Hart for about a season and a half is it now? Then suddenly have signed an old keeper to replace him.

I dont think thats the same.

It's not good to accept shit money either. He would just have to get used to it, he could always sit on the bench behind Harper if he's that upset. If we were putting all our eggs in one basket(Johnson), we should have demanded a swap or no deal. Clearly they made it up as they went along though and they've ended up looking like idiots.

Yeah but what i mean is just cos Hart will be number 2 it doesnt mean he doesnt have a bright future in the game and cant be our future number 1, he just has to be patient.

If he does then he does, the most important thing is we try and have the best side we can, if it means signing Given and losing Hart in a few years then its a shame but there isnt much we can do about it.

As long as Krul doesn't i don't mind, he has a very real chance of displacing Harper if a decent manager comes along. Forster is a local boy so maybe he will do a Harper and stick around.

So Quaresma fails at Barca because he was young and naive and and at Inter because he didn't get used to Serie A, but it's not because he's not as good as lots of people are making out.
His time in barca, I have explained and that is hard to hold against him imo. His time in inter has been quite bad but don't forget he has only played half a season and for such a fee he should be given more time and I was sure that Mourinho was the right man to do since he had Joe Cole who was similar to Quaresma before being put in his place.

Of course he could just turn out like Simao who started out in Barca aswell when he was perhaps too young and also built his confidence up again back in Portugal before going to Atletico. Now he is not the world class player I think people expected but merely a very good player.

I'm not saying he's a bad player but he is talked about as some amazing talent and flopped at 2 big teams in 2 of the biggest leagues, and about to flop in the 3rd biggest league. I can already see a ready-made excuse in that chelsea are in trouble etc for his next bit of flopping, but at what point is it going to be that he's just not as good as people make him out to be?

I would happily be wrong and for him to be a success at Chelsea, but apart from hitting it well with the outside of his foot I don't see anything special about him.
I totally understand where you are coming from with that. I though the same after his time in Barca but he showed to me for Porto he does have the talent but I figured that he would need the right coach to get it out of him. I really thought Mourinho would be that coach. Still I think Quaresma should have gotten atleast a season for Inter. I don't expect him to do wonders at Chelsea but hopefully he surprises. Like I said before it wouldn't surprise me if he goes the same route as Simao being just below the great players.

I don't think Quaresma is necessarily the best signing either, despite being "free"...if he puts Chelsea back in the title race, it'll surprise me for sure.

My vote goes to Arshavin, though Jo to Everton is also a good shout (Teamspirit).

Quaresma for me, Chelsea still are just 3 points away for Liverpool and 5 from us, if they can bulldoze lower placed teams like the opening of the season then it will quite close.

Arsenal, Zenit and the player have confirmed it, the Premier League haven't. Apparently most of their staff took yesterday off work to go sledding on Primrose Hill.

The fee is reported at £15m (unconfirmed) but Zenit wanted half of the £5m signing bonus they paid when he signed for them back, and we don't know if they got it or who paid it.

What are people's views of Wigan's signings of Rodagella and N'zogbia?

Obviously we haven't seen much of the Rod but from what I've seen he looked good and offers someting a little different to Zaki.

With N'Zog and Valencia on the wings Wigan should be very attacking and play some good football IMO

Rodagella will be a real test of Bruce's scouting. The money they're supposed to have paid for him is huge for a club like Wigan, particularly on such an unproven player, his only real pedigree is in youth tournaments. It's a massive gamble IMO.

N'Zomnia's a different kettle altogether, I can see him staying for a year and then getting sold for 2 or 3x what they paid. I'm amazed Spurs weren't in for him at that price, you wouldn't rule out them paying £10m+ for him next January.

£4.5million apparently, I think their record signing is Jason Koumas for £5m. The rest of their squad is really cheaply put together by modern standards. Not sure how much Valencia was but the majority were free or less than £3m.

Wigan have a good squad now. Attack-wise options look like:

    Wingers/AMs: Valencia/Koumas/DeRidder/N'Zogbia/Kapo
    Strikers: Mido/Zaki/Rodagella

and there's quite a bit of flexibility - you could play Mido or Zaki by themselves or together, Rodagella looks like he'd suit an AM/second striker role, and you could fit in 2 or 3 of the wingers depending on how you play, with Cattermole & Brown/Watson as anchors. Shame they'll probably lose Valencia in the summer.

I used to mock Bruce a lot (mainly due to Brum connections), but he has impressed me at Wigan. I no longer think of him as just a human potato

Steve Bruce is the managerial equivalent of Craig Bellamy IMO

Signing Palacios for £1m and selling him for £14m is good business, but only if you reinvest the £14m wisely. Not sure how much of that money he's spent, but it must be most of it and I don't see the squad as being better now.

Seeing as they paid 6 mill for N'Zogbia he is probably the record buy now. Decent team they got, but it was better before the window.

Palacios is good - but they weren't a one man-team - as shown by draws vs Villa and Pool since he left.

They've basically got Mido, Rodagella, Watson & N'Zogbia, and lost Palacios, Taylor, Heskey, King & Camara. I think they've come close to breaking even in quality - added some spark with Rod & Zog, but lost some experience and quality in the middle with Palacios and Heskey. And they might've made a smidge of profit, which is good considering Taylor and Heskey were out of contract in the summer anyway - and it's not easy to attract players to Wigan (although, I guess their proximity to Manchester and Liverpool means it's not seen as much of a football backwater as Blackburn or Hull)
