It's not all athleticism, but it's a huge part of it. When they get the ball, they are closed down and outmuscled far too quickly for their liking. And in return they just can't keep up with Arsenal. Part of it is due to Arsenal's better ball movement, but part is because they are able to run with the ball easily. Its amazing how thick people are with regards to this.

One could easily expect to see Chelsea get over 50% possession v Villarreal/Roma because they are inferior at passing but way better at winning it back.

Villarreal really need 1/2 players, with some real pace, thats all their team is really missing.

Only Toure, Eboue, Fabianski and Walcott played well with everyone else average to worse.
I won't judge Gibbs because of of his experience or Sylvestre because you can't really expect more from a shit player.

Nasri was too quiet especially for an open game.
V Persie not quick enough with his thinking or precise enough with the ball.
Adebayor was conceived offside.
Then Cesc, when you can pass like he can then its embarrassing the amount of times he gave the ball away in dangerous positions just from simple passing. He needs to get sharper and quick. No point in being the assist maker if aren't controlling the game. Tried way too many long balls as well. He better not become Gerrard in CM.

Eboue was good? His final ball was f'in abysmal. i mean truly shocking.

SHaz i think you watched a different game to the rest of us. if the majority of the arsenal players were avg to bad.

This is the same thing people say about Arsenal when we lose. Villareal's passing movements is brilliant Kas. They've got lots of players who can run with the ball too, see Fernadez, Ibagaza, Rossi, Pires etc so I don't see anything u are trying to prove with the Fabregas example.

We were not great tonight, but we've got simply put overall more quality than them. We are very similar, but they don't have someone in the class of RVP or Cesc for example. There in lies the difference.

We were not perfect but who gives a fuck, we are in the semi final of the CL - the second time in our history!!! Lets enjoy the evening.

The talent level is similar, but you are faster, bigger & stronger than them. That's it really.

The size & strength of an average PL team >>> Arsenal's size & strength >>> the athleticism, size & strength of Villareal & Roma.

His analysis is actually spot on IMO, but I just don't see the need to look into individual performances after a result like this.

Sadly athletic teams are the thing now but I remember hearing recently that football players can only improve 5%-10% in terms of fitness which is always something I suppose. Senna is really the only one Villarreal have in midfield that can do a something similar without missing the passing.
Roma needs to have somebody similar next to De Rossi instead of Pizzaro but what both these teams have in common is that they don't exactly have the money.

Id disagree, but i agree with you when you say that it really doesnt matter at all.

we won 3-0 in 1/4 final 2nd leg. thats all which counts. it doesnt happen very often.
