    Best kids? Empty Best kids?

Post by Batman ' Mon Apr 20, 2009 3:04 pm

Who in your opinion is the best, most succesfull young team of the modern era?

Was it the Manchester United kids of the mid 90's who won everything with youngsters Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, David Beckham, Paul Scholes and the Neville brothers, Gary and Phil.

Was it the Arsenal team who flattered to decieve and won NOTHING?

Or is it the current crop of Manchester United kids who have already won 3 trophies this season and are on course for two more?

    Best kids? Funland6

Who is the best manager for bringing through homegrown British talent and giving them experience in the top competitions?

    Oh dear...

Glenn, please do us a favour and post United's lineups of kids from the Carling Cup this season.

That is, if you don't mind answering your own questions.

Technically none of those players are kids. They could all be convicted as adults by law, say if they were to have raped someone. Perhaps.

The Ajax team of 1995 only contained 1 top player and he has only reached his peak while at Manchester United under the greatest manager of all time.

Hart, Richards, Onuoha, Ireland, Johnson, Zabaleta, Bojinov, Kompany, De Jong, Ceicedo, Sturridge, Evans, Garrido, Fernandes, Jo, Etuhu and Logan. Thats all the players we have aged 24 or under who have played this season, obviously not to the standard of the U*d team of the 90s or the Arsenal side so dont think im trying to even compare. Just saying i think we have some great prospects especially in Hart, Richards, Onuoha, Ireland, Johnson, Zabaleta, Bojinov, Kompany, De Jong and Sturridge.

Although if Sturridge wants £70k a week then he can fuck off. Although as a player he does have a lot of potential, apparently if you added all his playing time this season together he has played the equilivent of 11 full games and has managed 4 goals and 5 assists in this perio which is decent.

It used to have but now in my opinion (which im sure you will think counts for nothing cos its biast ) its us mate. Although i have been impressed with a few of your youngsters this season like Collison.

Richards, SWP, Ireland, Johnson, Onuoha, Sturridge, Evans, Kelvin Etuhu, Logan and Schmeichel are all still at the club and in and around the first team. Whilst the likes of Barton, Dixon Etuhu, Tyrone Mears, Ishmael Miller, Willow Flood, Glenn Whelan and Chris Killen are all playing in the Premiership or at decent European clubs (Mears, Killen & Flood). Then there is Jordan, Elliott, BWP and Croft who have al made careers for themselves in the championship. Plus there are mnay others that have played for the first team and then dropped down to lower levels like Shuker, Dunfield, Williamson and D'Laryea.

Overall 26 players have come through the academy to play for the first team. Out of those 21 have gone on to play championship or above quality football. Plus we have many more coming through, we won the Youth Cup last season and our current u18s have been exceptional this season winning their league without losing a game. I think the likes of Weiss, Mcdermott, Mak, Nimley, McGivern and Mee amongst others all have the potential to break through and become quality players. McGivern is already a full Northern Ireland international without yet making his first team debut for us.

Anyway the future it bright thanks to the legend that is Jim Cassell <Ale>

Man City just pip West Ham if we're talking about the last 4/5 years.

West Ham have some bloody good talent coming through though. Collison looks as though he could develop into a top class player. nolbe is continuing to develop into a very accomplished CM and Tompkins looks a great CB. I've also heard good things about Sears, although i haven't really seen enough of him to comment yet.

Aston Villa don't have too shabby an academy either.
