Definitely not Ballack. We had a great chance of beating them until this German lion decided to duck under Iniesta's shot.

What message does it send out when you give a bloke a new contract for costing you a place in the final No

Seriously though bizarre decision to give him one. He's old he's not that good and he didn't even make the f.a cup final team.

You think a side with two of the most static centrehalves in the world, three AMs and no wingers is going to beat the best passing side around?

    Seriously?

    No, SERIOUSLY?

This is one of the worst XIs I've ever seen. It's one redeeming feature is being played in only his third best position.

i think guus was thinking the same, thats the reason he was no starter for chelsea since this game

this 11 can beat barca, only more pace would be fine, so put ribery in

you cant beat barca with there own strength, so you must work hard as a team like the chelsesa side, and a player like ballack with his experience
    is important

    my 11

That's close, but IMO I'd make a few changes:

    Mascherano for Lampard
    Ronaldo for Arshavin
    Drogba for Villa

It's easier to stop Iniesta/Xavi if you put an extra DM in there instead of Lampard. No need for him with Kaka around. Essien is dynamic enough to prevent it being too defensive.

Fullbacks could easily be Bosingwa and Evra...but it doesn't really matter as long as they're fast.

CBs is spot on more or less: one clever ball player, one hardman. This is similar to Ferdinand-Vidic. Their main problem in the final was they weren't told what to do with Messi's positioning. He was in between the defensive and midfield lines, and left them with nobody to mark (makes you wonder just what Ferguson was doing when he claimed he watched the 6-2 Clasico, because Messi spent the entire match in that position, similarly confusing Cannavaro and Metzelder).

Arshavin's a great player but Ronaldo has the same speed and ball control, and adds the strength and aerial threat (and can also float into the middle) that can really trouble Barça. Plus long range shots to pick on Valdes.

And Drogba over Villa should be self-explanatory.

That would also work. I set up my team to use the vision and passing ability of Kaka, Lampard, Arshavin, & Ribery. Villa plays off the last defender, and his mobility will trouble any defence with the service behind. His finishing is better than Drogba, full-stop. Kaka, Lampard and Essien could shoot from long distance. I thought long about Cristiano's aerial threat, and goal poaching ability long and hard. My team has finishers with better shot conversion ratio than Ronaldo. But I don't necessarily disagree with your suggestion, it could work also.

I'd also take Xabi over Mascherano (who I think is overrated based on current form) I don't want to just "destroy" Barca's football (Messi, Xavi and Iniesta specifically), I want this team to pass & play. Lampard has been the most effective player (goals + assists + Key passes) in Premier league this season, and he plays a midfielder than a SS role. And I'd not be surprised if Gerrard & Torres are replacements for Lampard & Villa.

    lol!

Some people here think football is that simple. You don't just assemble 11 world class players and expect them to perform anything close to their potential in one game. They'd be ripped to shreds against a top team like Barca who are well drilled and have got existing partnerships(about as important as talent IMO) in the side.

I'd say forget picking 11 star players, just play the current Liverpool team against them and you've got a far bigger chance of beating Barca.

Man Utd if Hargreaves is fit.

From Serie A I'd most fancy Juventus.

Its a really shit formation though.

If we were doing the whole random XI thing, I'd play:

    --------------Buffon-----------

    Bosingwa---Rio---Chiellini---Evra

    -------Mascherano--Essien--------

    Ronaldo-----Gerrard-----Arshavin

    ---------------Drogba------------

    Valdes

    Alves - Pique - Puyol - Abidal

    Toure

    Xavi - Iniesta

    Messi - Villa - Ribery

that team would beat Barca 08/09.
