Solid defense, rampaging fullbacks, and a narrow, skilled midfield. If necessary, Toure can drop into defense. Ideally, I'd actually include Xabi Alonso, Sergio Ramos, and Casillas.

You'd have Silva playing a Centreback and upfront? I've heard of Quantum theory, but that's too far. Or do you mean Thiago Silva?

Style - using plenty of width, reliant upon the wingbacks roaming up and down the flanks as quick outlets on the break.

Back 3 all tough but extremely comfortable on the ball - no hoofers like Vidic here to give the ball straight back to Barca and wait 10 minutes to get it back

Midfield - Yaya IMO on his day is the best versatile midfielder in the World, and can play holding midfielder but good enough going forward to support quick breaks.

Schweinsteiger has the physical strength and ability to dictate play with his range of passing and technique.

Modric and Silva are just about the 2 best players I've seen currently who can play in tight spaces against Barca's buzzing pressing tactic high up the field,

and then RVP is on fire and probably the best allround striker who can play as a target man and creator.

Tactic is to counter RAPIDLY and accurately.

Flood the midfield with Technically competent players, who will work hard, the key will be having a 10, that can deliver a deadly pass, up front a big man, complemented by a deadly finisher would be idea, as you won't get many chances.

Don't understand why people would pick Vidic; he's not particularly good against pacey/tricky forwards - see his games against Barca for that. That would only get worse with the likes of Sanchez around.

Kompany could maybe an options over Ramos. Silva is the best CB in the world for me, and the FB's are pretty much the best in their respective positions too. Banega has always played well against Barca, and at times it's been him vs 'them' which of course is no mean feat. Toure because he's a top player and I'm not sure of anyone else who combines physicality/pace/passing as well as he does. He's also played at Barca for 2 years. Piggy is amongst the best CM's in the world outside of Barca. Bale + Ronaldo is sheer pace which and they could get at Barca's wings. RVP is currently on red hot form, though I think Gomez/Higs/Aguero/Benzema would be equally as effective.

After everything that happened on Saturday, you still pick Marcelo and Ronaldo?

Ramos has the skills on paper, but against Barça he's always a red card waiting to happen.

What did Marcelo do wrong exactly? I thought he was one of Madrid's better players and more than held his own against Sanchez and Messi.

Well Marcelo was generally ok although he was nowhere to be found as Dani Alves galloped down the right wing before putting in the cross for Cesc's goal. It was bad luck that Xavi's volley hit his foot before deflecting off the post and in. Of the two full backs Marcelo was far better than Coentrao but then again Coentrao had possibly the worst game of his life.

I am not even going to discuss Ronaldo. He's good at scoring against teams in Segunda B, I will give him that.

I would definitely consider adding some physical presence as a one of ways to get some advantage over Barcelona - so Micah Richards over Lahm (can start as LB) or Marcelo is IMO a must.

Nesta would be the CB who mainly covers but it is essential that both CB's are able to come out of defense to challenge Messi when he receives the ball behind Cambiasso and Pepe.(Vidic and Ferdinand are incapable at doing this to a satisfactory level).When this happens Zanetti has the intelligence to tuck in momentarily and Alvaro Pereira must be alert to track Alves runs.

Cambiasso is proven to be the best DM to play against Barca,he is the master of blocking passing options and with the more aggressive Pepe and Alvaro sometimes making it 3 DM's.


Alvaro would track the runs of Alves and he is also capable of starting counter attacks.He is a superb athlete who is excellent at closing players down and he can play LB,LWB,DM and LM.

Sneider would start counter attacks by using his passing skills to hit Alvaro,Eto and Cavani quickly.He is also mobile and hard working enough to man mark Xavi when Barca have possesion as shown in the 2010 CL.

Cavani will mark Busquets when he is playing deep,when he swaps with Xavi and goes further foward Eto and Sneider swap which players they mark.
Cavani and Eto are both mobile,strong and fast,both are lethal at counter attacking and would both interchange positions throughout the match.Most importantly both are deadly infront of goal which is crucial against Barca,you don't get many chances.

Eto would track back when out of possession like in 2010 against Barca,the front 4 would put Barcas defence under pressure all the time when they have the ball.

What is most important is this system is flexible,the players and formation are capable of adapting to a high pressing or deep gameplan.

To play a more aggresive,high pressure game the formation can easily switch to:
