it's disgusting that FIFA changed the rules half-way through qualifying, Blatter and co couldn't cope with the possibility of France/Portugal/Germany/Italy knocking each other out in the play-offs and although perhaps it could be argued it is for the greater good of the tournament, it devalues the whole process.

Here's hoping the unseeded teams all qualify Ale

Yup, I think it's ridiculous that FIFA just changed the rules midway. Can't the federations take legal action against them? Or will Blatter and co. just suspend that country from international football? Rolling Eyes

Teams in order of who I'd most like to see in the WC:

    1. Russia

    2. Ireland
    3. Bosnia
    4. France
    5. Portugal

    6. Slovenia/Ukraine/Greece Sleep Sleep Sleep

I'm desperately hoping that Greece get Bosnia or Ireland and not Slovenia...but you just know the qualifiers will throw up at least one shit match with 2 teams that nobody wants to see at the World Cup Grr

Precisely. Plus, landlocked meets almost-drowned, bankers meet stoners, cuckoo clocks meet clogs. They complement each other perfectly.

    It is funnny though...

Some people say that to seed teams in the play-off is bs. But they like it on the group stage...

One could argue the seeding system but it has its logic in the present system nevertheless.

That said it is also perfectly logic that most support the underdogs but for a world cup to have its own charisma you have to have the powerhouses and the hyped teams.

It is not the same thing to see a clash of Italy/England or a Germany/Argentina or a Brazil/Spain for example or to see lesser charismatic teams no matter how good they are. A group of these, yes, but most of them i wouldn´t like it.

That said thanks for the support and i hope we leave some disapointed in the play-offs Rolling Eyes

We have Argentina/Brazil/Italy/Spain/England/Holland/Germany at the world cup so I think we do without one of France/Portugal. I want good teams at the world cup but I think it should be about merits. That is why I wouldn't that opposed to a world cup without seeding at the group stage.

Thing is the qualifying groups were seeded already, and these teams all proved to be 2nd best in their particular group - so they should all be considered equal.

I'm sure you'll make it anyway, so not worth worrying what miserable folk like me think Smile

Because they are completely different countries and came from the break up of those different countries. Slovakia was part of Czchoslovakia once and Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia consisted of federal republics that broke into separate parts in the brutal wars of the 1990s while Czechoslovakia had a peaceful velvet divorce.

I am all for seeding teams, you have to get credit for your previous good performances. So this new system is a better one. But I didn't like the fact that FIFA did it midway, you cannot change the rules once the competition has started. That bit was just wrong.
