    Maradona's Argentina! Empty Maradona's Argentina!

Post by bluenine Sat Oct 31, 2009 5:20 pm

So Maradona calls up only europe based players for the friendly against Spain... thats understandable... but how come there is still no place for Samuel and Zanetti - whats that about???

No Milito, I can understand - he is just coming back from injury... but Samuel is easily the best CB Argentina has, and how can ya select players like Coloccini & Hienze over Zanetti??? Rolling Eyes

At least Cambiasso finally gets a look in...

Lionel Messi & Esteban Cambiasso Called Up To Argentina Squad To Face Spain
'El Diez' has named a strong squad for los Albicelestes friendly in Madrid next month. However, there are a couple of surprises...Diego Maradona has revealed his Argentina squad to face Spain next month, and it is entirely made up of European-based players.

Despite the criticisms that have been directed at Lionel Messi for his sub-standard performances with the national team, the Barcelona star is one of five forwards in the squad.

Napoli's Ezequiel Lavezzi has also been included after Maradona praised him in the Argentine media recently. 'El Pocho' has not been in red-hot form in front of goal, which will leave the likes of Diego Milito and Lisandro Lopez wondering what they must do to impress the national coach.

More surprisingly, there has been a recall for Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso. The 29-year-old has not featured for Diego Maradona since he took charge of Argentina.

Meanwhile, Nicolas Pareja and Cristian Ansaldi have also both been selected and are in line to debut for their country against Spain at the Vicente Calderon on November 14.

Argentina squad to face Spain: Romero, Andujar; Coloccini, Demichelis, Heinze, Pareja, Ansaldi; Jonas Gutierrez, Maxi Rodriguez, Mascherano, Gago, Cambiasso, Di Maria, Aimar; Messi, Higuain, Tevez, Aguero, Lavezzi

Zanetti is middle-aged, and Coloccini is injured. Absolute fuckers, international teams are always destroying our players. Grr

He still plays more minutes and covers more ground than any other player at Inter...

Really surprised that Cambiasso was called. What made Maradona change his mind? I guess it shows that there is still hope for other players.

Would liked to have seen Banega called up.

Ansaldi is interesting selection too. By all accounts he's been playing very well for Rubin. Could quite possibly be Argentina's best option at LB (given the options available)

Would have taken Zarate over Tevez/Kun at the moment.

And of course nice to see Cambiasso back in the mix.

Aguero & Lavezzi are going to the World Cup for sure, Maradona will never drop them. So there is unlikely to be space for Zarate, however talented he is. That said, Zarate's recent form does not merit a call up.

He's scoring which is more than Tevez or Kun at the moment. I would never advocate dropping Kun anyway. I think he's a special player (albeit in a poor run of form). He should be definitely be going to the WC. I'm not so sure about Tevez though...25 now...and over 50 caps but has been incredibly disappoiting.

Zarate at least deserves a shot. If nothing else he should be capped so Italy don't nab him.

Lavezzi doesn't score a great deal either, but he is lightning, and looks useful.

Such players are usually wasted at Nazionale, if Cassano cannot get a look in for the Azzurri with his form, Zarate has no hope in hell.

Lippi prefers Pepe to the likes of Cassano/Zarate Rolling Eyes

Not familiar with Pareja, is he a right back. If not who is he going to play there? Demichelis? Gutierrez?

Pareja is a CB, was part of their Olympic gold medal winning team. Don't think he can play RB, so your guess is as good as mine. Probably Jonas.

Well he is back training, for the moment. Most likely his knees will be broken again by the time the world cup rolls around.
